I received this email this morning:

"Dear Ted,
I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing your video and really enjoyed your playing. Nice to hear you play in 7/4 not many blues harp players could do that.
If ever I need a blues harp I will definitely contact you.
best regards
john mclaughlin="

This is John McLaughlin of Miles Davis/Tony Williams/Mahavishnu Orchestra fame, arguably one of the most influential jazz guitarist of the last fify years. I sent him a link via a contact email on his web site for this video I made of myself improvising over a jam track very much in his style. This is the video I linked to:

A gracious, classy musician.

That's pretty cool Ted. John's a terrific guitar player. I had a Mahavishnu album back in the early 70's. Quite a compliment and well deserved.

That's one helluva compliment to get, Ted! It's all very subjective of course, but most veteran guitarists I talk to, and a lot of famous guitarists whose interviews I've read, have said that McLaughlin is THE greatest guitarist alive today.

Ted..are the meters 11/4 or even 13/4 practical or does it depend on the tempo? I think your on to something - I hope you get that call, your ready for greatness :)

Thanks everyone. It is a kick, a genuine cloud 9 sort of feeling. It's doubtful a musician as resourceful and well connected as Mr. McLaughlin will need harmonica from the likes of me--this, and my experience with him decades ago, prove him to be a genuinely classy man-- I can, for a bit, imagine the trading of riffs with an acknowledged Master.

Ted, McLaughlin is a very gentle, humble man and a genuine guy.
He would not have written to you unless he was considering it..it could be the meeting of the spirits ha!
