I had a two fantastic things happen this week that I thought I should share with you.
Firstly I finally found a Harpgear Double Trouble on UK ebay and won it. I asked the guy who owned it if I could come and collect as he was quite close to me and he said no problems and we arranged for me to come and pick it up after work this next evening. I got an address which I tapped into the sat-nav which led me down a very narrow country lane in the middle of no-where into a farm yard.
Turns out the Barn is a recording studio and my man is recording an album and he'd like me to play over a track they have that needs some fills.
Now first off I've never been in a recording studio in my life and secondly they were in a hurry so they played the track for me three times with the instructions to "play all over the top of it and we'll take what we need from it".

Below is the result ( they will send me the final edit). They said if they use it they will name me on the album and they also asked if I would be available to play with them in the future!! In all I was there 30 minutes and it was one the best half hours of my life The group are called Long John Laundry which I think is pretty cool.

Now I'm my own worst critic and as you can imagine I've listened to it about 4000 time since I got it 3 days ago so I know there's lots of things that could be better but I had to do this off the top of my head so please excuse the mistakes.

By the way...the amp is GREAT!!!

EDIT: Apologies to all but I felt I needed to delete this link as the song I played on is copyrighted and I shouldn't have posted it here. The band haven't asked me to do this but I was speaking to another musician last night who warned me off publishing other peoples work so think it's best I do this until I ask the band if they will let me post it. Should have done that first of course... TahoeMike...I'd be grateful if you could delete your embed also.

Congratulations on getting a HarpGear Double Trouble. They are great amps and light to carry which is always a bonus!

The recording sounds good. It'll be interesting to hear the final mix.

man, that's my dream gigging amp! Can I ask how much you paid for it?

And do you plan to bring it to the C&H at some stage?

Nice track too, good playing.

Thanks for the kind comments. GH I paid £431 for it. The guy who owned it bought it when he was in the states a few years ago and he had it modified for Uk voltage.
. As Kingley said its really light but gets very loud if you need it.
. As for the C+H well I,ve moved to Dunstable recently so its a bit harder to get down mid week but I will do it in the next month or two and I,ll drop you a note via here....or if you are up this way, pop in for a blast on it. H

That's a bargain in my opinion. I was considering paying £450-500 for an HG2 modded for UK voltage - and even then I don't think the seller would have gone that low. I occasionally type in Harpgear in ebay (not for a while) but thought I was fooling myself.

I use a Marble Max for gigging - and also bring it to the C&H the few times I've jammed there. It pretty much works as the blues/roots band I play in as they mostly keep volumes manageable, but the Double Trouble or something similar would be ideal. I'm thinking to either go for the Princeton Reissue, or perhaps a VHT Special 6 in combo with the Max.

And yes let me know if you're at the C&H - might be easier to email me on j_daniell "at" hotmail.com. I think we met there briefly about 3 or 4 years ago and talked amps then

cheers

GamblersHand - If you can find a good used Double Trouble then grab it. The chances of finding one in the UK for sale though are pretty slim.

If you have the money though, I'd suggest getting the '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue. It's without a doubt the best amp for harp I've ever played.

Cool! Sounds good too. You certainly have better luck meeting strangers than I do. :)

Oisin, finding that amp on UK ebay was fortunate. Did you just happen to come across it or did you use a search feature that brings up new listings? If so what did call your search? Not being in the US I find there isn"t much in the Canadian ebay site from the harp amp point of view though of course there's lots under guitar amps.

Thanks TahoeMIke, much appreciated.

SmokeJS....I didn't use any special search feature, I just check under "harmonica", then look at the sub-section "pro-audio equipment" which lists mics, amps etc. I just check it every day. I always use the "Worldwide" filter for location.
I also collect old Echo supervamper harps from Hohner and waited 5 years till one in Eb or Ab came up....and about 10 came up at once!! They were from a guy whose Dad had a music shop and he found all these NOS harps still in the original shipping multi-packs. I got a few of them for a great price.
I'm sure there are search features you could use but patience and luck are what I've been using!

Damn! I like your groove man. Somethings are able to be improved, but now I'll focus on your strenghts: you got an awesome rhythm sense, man, and that works fine for that groovy song. Congratulations for your great experience, you're a lucky man :D

Oisin - You can miss a lot of stuff searching like that you know. You might find it more useful to do searches and bookmark them so you can just bring them up with one click. When I'm looking I search for things like, Shure harp mic, Astatic harp mic, Turner harp mic, Shure 99A86, Shure CM element, Harp amp, etc, etc. That usually gives you wide ranging results and brings up things that may be listed incorrectly.

Not to rain on your parade, but Silverharp88 just posted a thread where he said playing the harp got cute girls to come over and hang out. As cool as your story is, he may be ahead. :)
