$20 grand? Yeah, right. Sorry - I'm not that star struck. Will be interesting to see if it does go for that to some nut ball collector.

That is crazy!
I wouldn't buy it for $2000 and I like Magic Dick with J. Giels!

I'd want a Magic Dick for $20,000.

I don't mean the person. I mean I'd actually want my dick to be magical.

@ Stevelegh
You only have to convince (con) one person into thinking it's magical!

HaHaHa!
I bought a Gibson GA-40 back in the 1990's from a music shop in New Bedford. The owner told me the amp had belonged to Magic Dick and wanted a gazillion dollars for historic reasons. I ended up buying it for a reasonable price. Why? Because I found out why Magic Dick got rid of it and paid to have it put back in 100% working order. I finally sold it 10 years later to a shop in Northhampton, MA. By that time it was a mess, making buzzing noises needed a lot of work. I remember when sold it to the shop, I told them of its pedigree. The shop owner rolled his eyes and said, "Ah, another Magic Dick special!"

It seems significantly overpriced to me. I'd be interested in knowing what the amp folks here think it would be worth if it hadn't been touched by Magic's Dick [sic].

How much rarer are 1956 Bandmasters than 1956 Bassmans?

My guess is that a mint '56 Bandmaster might bring $13-15K. So it feels to me as though at least $5K is being tacked on for the provenance. (Dick's touch.)

Adam, I dunno what a 56 Bandmaster would bring on eBay, Salwitzified or not. This is the first time I've seen one on the bay.

However, I have seen one or two on gbase. They went for nine to eleven $K. So even if this is Dicks amp, still way overpriced from what I've seen.

a 1956 stratocaster in that kinda shape would be WELL over $75,000 dollars. if you have so much money you do not know what to do with it, wouldn't you like a vintage bandmaster, as opposed to some fancy artwork?
i would for sure.

Fender produced 850 1956 Bandmaster 5E7 models vs.
650 1956 5E6 models.

Can't remember what the last one I saw sold for-being all original -transformers,pots,wiring,etc- certainly does not hurt.

You really have nothing to compare this amp to,so why not start the bidding high? They are willing to accept offers-they are worth $5800.00 on the low end-I did find a listing from June 2012-black tolex and three CTS speakers for that price-and $15,000 on the high end. If Magic's amp is as original as they say, then they are not too far off.

Or you may also consider this-how much is tone worth?

I think the general number is about 10,000.

Yes, and I'm adding the obligatory "tone comes from player" comment. Whoever that is would have great tone through a clean PA and a SM58 -or acoustic just to lower the cost to zero (~10,00 hours not withstanding).

@Littoral-not for that particular setting-it is just not possible for ANYONE to get Magic's tone through a PA with an SM58 and have it sound like the above clips. And that is what the OP encompasses.
Magic used that amp on the above songs-not that just anyone would sound like that through that amp,but it's a good place to start.

FWIW
the third tmf714 sound clip is mislabeled a bit. While it starts as unmistakably LWs Roller Coaster the vocal is definitely LWs 'I Got to Go'.

You would have to speak to Magic and Rounder about that-

On the "Bluestime" Cd it is titled as "Roller Coaster-Crazy Legs-I Got To Go".

I think it is a good title-

tmf714 - I think you could get damn close to that for $1500-$2000. Will it appreciate in value further on down the road? Probably not but I don't care. By then,I'll be dead and gone.

@ tmf714, the songs you posted have fabulous tone! but no amp is worth that type of dough.

I guess it's worth what someone will pay for it!
Vintage amps in ex+ condition are collectible and can be a good investment, prices sure do fluctuate though. I sure wish I had started collecting amps in the 1970's :)
I got a lotta dough for the 5d6 bassman I sold a few years back. I could never afford to buy one at going market rate. If anyone wants a re-tweed original tweed bandmaster, A good friend has one he's ready to sell.
