Got my new Sp20 F harp earlier this week and it's the highest harp I've played. I was a bit cautious about getting it because I thought I wouldn't play it a great deal but I'm finding I'm loving it. Just need to get more C backing tracks now.
I'm finding my technique needs a slight modification, I can get OB's on 4,5 and 6 but that needs more work yet.
My main observation so far is how much I can really pinch the wailing and bending down with more accuracy but it still needs more work yet.
A short while ago I saw someone who said the high keys are not suitable for the slow blues but I have to disagree. I have a track which I recorded tonight. The composition/improv needs a lot of work but it illustrates how I'm enjoying playing the F harp. It seems to be so forgiving at times. It's hard to explain, but I'm loving it.
I use various techniques lip purse, TB's, chords, octaves, flutters etc. but they are mainly in the second half of the recording.
Any comments are more than welcome. Thanks.
Whoops! Backing Track is Slow Blues in C from Ultimate Jam Tracks Vol 2.

Nice work and glad you are enjoying the new harp. Our band plays a ton of songs in C these day; part of it is the song and it is easy to sing in that key. I do get a little tired of F only because it is so high. To mix it up, I got a low F a while back but really didn't use it much as it was tough to break in. More recently I got a THunderbird Low F and right out of the box it is an amazing harp and is very responsive. Have fun!

Sounding good, Tooka. I am a bit of a techno-peasant but you can change the pitch of any song with Amazing Slowdowner.

I play with a lot of ukulele players. Tons of tunes in C. I have a number of F harps including several low F's, play them a lot.

Nah, I have the complete collection from thepiratebay. It's not numbered but named and keynoted. For example 'Messin with the kid in C'. I'll post a dropboxlink later... On the phone...
Edit: I believe Adam has a lesson on it, too... The Fritts backing track has more of the signature downscale turnaround, if memory serves... And probably longer, too. ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

I never used mine so I took it to a festival to use as an autograph harp. I think Kenny Neal signed it. Anyway, I started playing with a band that does a lot of Soul, R & B and Funk and the key of C kept coming up to the point where I bought another one. I know, I'm working on third on the Bb.

Seems like many shy away from F harps because they are so high pitched. Anyone have a favorite brand, model that they use for this key? Maybe a different brand than you would normally use. thanks, Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

Good work. You're working the tone ... good ... mixing soft and hard attack ... variating the tecnniques ... can tell you're enjoying the F-harp. Working the OB 4,5,6 on the F-harp is good work. I rarely use standard F myself, and when I do it's for solos and fast playing. I prefer Low F or 1st/3rd position, but it is nice to sometimes move up from a Low F to standard F during solos.

Hi, took and everyone, I won't be able to work my Dropbox in a while... Found this page which links to, what it seems like, all Fritts BT as YouTube vids. Be well!

Edit: just tried the link for 'messin' and, waddayaknow, it seemed like there was no video. Pwah, I'll post when I get some computer time next... ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

Good work Tooka,
I've always loved the F harp. Any of the Hohner hand made series are great out of the box since Hohner stepped up it's game. My personal fav F gig harp is the Crossover. I keep a Low F MB 1896 in my kit but hardly use it unless for third position experiments in jam sessions. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.
