Give it to a stripper....

(A true story...but not mine...)

Or...

You can just let it air out a long time.... Or sand and seal the comb... Or just replace the comb altogether...

Let me know if you find a way. I have a pretty Blessing Tremolo that stinks to high heaven, (and the whole point of Blessing Tremolos is the pretty colored comb).

(I wonder if sealing an unsealed comb would hide the taste?)

I soak all my harps in 91% Alcohol to sanitize because it evaporates. I recently soaked one in a glass of Crest Pro Health to loosen up the goober dust and it worked! No BS!

Gee Fred, I dunno. If you can't do any of the stuff that might do something to help...just leave it in a good smelling place for a really long time I suppose...

i dont have a drill press right now. im gonna try activated charcoal. never put your harp in a cigar box or your gfs purse. never gig with the ones you like in smoky bars.

Clean the Harp with Alcohol and let the pieces air out well. Then..... go get a pack of Bemans or Black Jack stick gum.....After the harp is aired re assemble and put in its case or leather pouch. Place a unopened stick or two of the gum in with the harp... After a couple of days the harp will have the faint flavor of the gum....change sticks often... works well for cased smaller 10 holes its a given.

Blessing are junk harps, but they have a soft spot in my heart. My grandmother bought me my very first harp on a trip to China- a Blessing Tremolo. It needs some work at this point, so having another one gives me a chance to experiment a bit before risking the family heirloom.

You could take off the covers only. Spray 91% alcohol on top and bottom plates and give it a good shot in the front and in the rear. you can buy these little 2oz spray bottles to fill w/ alcohol in most any chain type drug store. They often have them in drug stores because of the TSA limit on liquids.
I clean everything harp w/ 91% alcohol and it removes the most stubborn smells. even cigarette smell. (i have customers who smoke)
don't use 70% alcohol. Too much water content.

or take KingoBads advice and "Give it to a stripper...."

ok i will look for 91 proof. but not on the chroms it can mess up valves. the 64 is plastic comb i can flush it out with dish soap and water then separate the the valves with a toothpick till dry. the chrom infected with dollar store perfume from a gfs purse will have to be sealed and bolted. i only need a G,A,C,D and F to play with this cancer band. i will get all sp20s and do the 91 proof thing. the chroms i will not bring out unless its an outdoor gig or a smoke free bar thing. DONT CARRY YOUR HARPS IN A CEDAR BOX!!!!!!!!

@ fred gomez,

being as moisture from your breath gets on the valves and a lot of moisture only seizes them up briefly, i wouldn't worry too much about quick drying alcohol sprayed lightly on them.

But, better safe than sorry as some valves are two pieces. part plastic and part paper. It's the paper that can get soaked and curl and ruined. the plastic will be fine.
