I'm the kind of guy that doesn't have the time or inclination to read every post of this forum or any other. However, I do keep my eyes open for certain online handles. Elk River aka David Payne is one of those. I've never met him in person but I'll likely read anything that he posts...harmonica related or not. I just enjoy/appreciate his writing style, sense of humor and his experience and knowledge and his willingess to share. I've purchased three of his optimized Seydels through Mantra Harmonicas and I really like them. They play very nicely. One of them is a Bb which I splurged on because I rarely play Bb harps but love them and wanted a nice one in my bag. Tonight I opened it up to adjust a reed a bit and noticed the following inscription: "Built 8 days after the supposed Mayan end of the world". My next thought was, "Of course!" My kind of guy! I have no affiliation whatsoever but this is a guy that deserves your business. He really puts himself into the harp when he builds it! All the best on your journey, especially, to David, Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

I've got some Dave Payne optimized hamonicas tuned to 7limit JI. Great harps and Dave is a stand up guy to deal with. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.

Dave Payne is a great guy with a huge amount of knowledge that he is willing to share freely with the world. Every time he makes a post I make sure I read it. I have learnt a lot from Dave over the years.

Same here--talked with him many a time, and had hoped that he was going to go to SPAH, but Danny Gajovski of New Harmonica says Dave probably won't be there. He IS going to Danny's 4th of July picnic tho . . .

David Payne is simply one of the kindest, most genuine, interesting, humble, and nurturing men I have ever met in my life. I mean every word of that. Jason Ricci

Yes, because Dave is a writer, he creates very worthwhile narratives. Plus he knows the harmonica! And although it has not always been holding hands and braiding each other's hair, he is a gentleman and has given me the benefit of the doubt upon occasion, for which I am grateful. I'd like to check out his optimized Seydel chromatics.

I haven't seen much of him lately. He's one of the good apples.
