Hi,

Last Saturday I played for the first time in a Jam!. It wasnt a blues jam, but rather a group of friends/musicians playing, maybe 25-30 people in the audience, in a small shed where an old woman was selling beer.

They played from Pink Floyd to jazz standards, and occasionally some shuffles. It was more like an open mic, anyone who felt like playing just needed to pick an instrumet.

After a couple of free improvisations that sounded like progressive rock they began to play an uptempo Shufle, and I decided to approach the stage and take the microphone. It was a vocal mic going to the soundboard. When I started playing I realized that I could hardly hear my self, so I just played it simple: warbles, -2 deep bends, octaves, no complex melody because I could not tell if it worked or not, so I just play whit the groove until I had to do my solo, and in that moment I thought of starting a series of riffs to prove that I was a "good" harmonica player, but decided I would keep the groove with a simple call / response pattern and playing the root of the chord in the upbeat.

When the song ended, I sat down and a woman told me, "That was very good, I was about to get up and dance"

I played four songs that night, not all in a row.

It was very very entertaining. If two years ago someone had told me that one day I would be able to jam with a band I would have said "no way, I dont have any talent!"

Thxs to all of you in this forum for all the info a kindness that you have and share.

Nice One! It's a great and scary thing you just did and I know exactly how it feels before and after, i recon you pitched it just righ, keeping it simple and not trying to shine to soon, just keep on doing more of the same and you can't go wrong.

25-30 people in the audience? That's beat any of the shows I've played harp on! (I've sung in front of more. I used to be in choir in high school, but that's not the same.)

Congrats. :)
