So I was reading through the archive and saw a few new members started a thread, just to say "Hello" and introduce themselves. To follow suit, I thought I would do the same.

I’m a 35 year old ‘Yinzer’ hailing from Pittsburgh PA. (To those of you who care… Yes, I’m a born and bred Steelers fan) and have been playing harp for about 6 years now. So I’m still new to the game… but have gone around the block a couple times.

Music is not my primary gig… (I’m a steady white collar 9 to 5r)… but I have been playing with a 4 man group for about 3 ½ years now (I play rhythm guitar and harp). Mostly we’ve been playing classic rock, blues and a few random off the wall songs from various genres.

With regards to my playing style/outlook, I'm not a gearhead... but I'm not a reed wailing purest either. Sort of in the middle. Gear does not make the player…. only good playing can do that. But that being said… I like to experiment with my sound. Lately I have been primarily focused on honing MY tone, though I have shelled out some money to get the gear I felt helped to shape my sound (I’ve added who either made or modded my stuff, as some of you may know them).

I’m currently playing on a variety of harps…..usually SP20’s, Marine Band’s & Golden Mel’s. All are bone stock Hohner’s, but I seem to be getting clean consistent, clear notes with decent bends out of them. What more can you ask for from stock harps right?

My current setup is a vintage Shure 707A bullet mic, which I had (acquired from an Ebay purchase) rewired with the original element and custom painted by Chuck Gurney of Fat Bottom Mics (Chuck does awesome paint jobs). He also did the screw on connector and my cables for me (top notch).

I only use one pedal in my setup currently….. a Lone Wolf Harp Delay (V2) which I’m sure almost everyone in the harp community knows about. Totally awesome product… and I’m debating on getting the Tone + at some point.

I’ve had a few amps over the past couple of years. I never was able to really settle down with just one… and loved playing through pretty much anything someone would let me blow a tune through. Some sounded good…. Some really didn’t! LOL But currently I’m playing harp into an Oahu 8" suitcase amp which David Barnes of Vintage 47 Amps made for me (I can’t say enough great things about David and his work). I end up just micing it up to the house pa… sounds great!

I’ll try and get some pics tonight, so you all can see my setup, if you wish….

Things I would like to try/pick up:
Ron Holmes Harp Commander (either a 3 or 4) with the FX loop
Greg Heumann’s Ultimate 57 w/ Bulletizer
An XB-40 (just because I have to try one)

Welcome pockets! Here roams Yanks, Canucks, Brits, Aussies, Japs, Turks, Fins, Israelis, Swedes, Schmucks, Ducks, Hypocrites (on occasion, we can all admit it), Hypochondriacs (that, too) and two or three heads of Churches (although certain topics are a no-no, see forum creed). So I guess a Steelers fan can fit right in.

Thanks for the intro! Welcome to the Forum, Pockets.
I have the HCIII. I don't use it as much as I use to. I have been able to get one harp specific amp and have several other harp friendly amps. I keep it for straight to PA and for a couple of amps that are not harp friendly. I like the compression knob and the phase knob. It has been a real good tool to have. You can use it on any amp, but I have found some amps don't need it.

Welcome aboard. I used to live down in Steelers territory as a kid, but I still ended up a Cowboys fan, (and an Astros fan over in baseball, which I am finally officially renouncing with them moving to the A.L. The team played a different brand of baseball after moving out of the Astrodome.)

I suppose we can accept a Steelers fan, if we have too. :)

Nate, I also lived in Pittsburgh as a kid, 1977-1981. Seemed like all the teams were winning, all the time.

Welcome.

Welcome, Pockets.

Yeah, former Yinzer here, too....and going to be there on business middle of March. What's your band and/or where do you play?

Note: We're a four Terrible Towel family. But, at this time of year, it's, "Go Pens!".

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

Johncn, The group i'm playing with is named 'Bourbon Renewal'.

We have played a few local bars in the SouthSide, a few out in Coraopolis and around the international airport area.

We just stopped doing gigs at the end of this past year, to take some time off and work on material.
