Recorded this track this morning, and thought I'd share. I'm calling this track "ONE DROP DUB", and I leave it up to you to define the genre. Mainly uploading to share with y'all, but comments, critique, etc, all welcome.
Info:
Recorded in one shot, live, with some harpboxed loops, some sweet third-position reggae style melody, and some echo-shots for that dub feel. Loops done on the Zoom G3, then output through a stereo delay for the echo-shots. I'm playing a half-valved Delta Frost in the key of B retuned to dorian layout (lowered 3 and 7 draw) for both the harpboxed loop and the melody. ----------
Coming along nicely there Isaacullah. I liked the dub feel and the thumping stomp?
By the way I bought the Canon SX150 IS that you were talking about in another thread. Nice piece of kit with stereo video sound. Need to learn how to use it now but it is good. Battery life a bit poor with Alkalines but I'm hoping NiMH's will fix that.
Thanks tooka! The thumping stomps are an effect of beatbox "kick drum" in close proximity to the mic into a huge reverb...
Cool that you got that Canon! I've got it on my "shopping list" but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm actually kinda hoping that someone might get it for me for my bithday in a couple of months! Glad to hear that the talk 'round the net about it seems to be true! NiMH should help with battery life for sure (at least I've found that to be the case with other cameras that I've owned)... Let me know how you get on with it, and upload some vid shot with it if you get a chance! ----------
Ever had that feeling that you have an idea but you aren't sure what it is? This track has been giving me that feeling the last couple days. I'll have a useful comment soon, hopefully. I do like it. I hear something and my brain is saying, 'Ooo, more cowbell,' but it's not cowbell it wants. If I figure it out, I'll let you know. :)
@Nate: Lol! I know what you mean! Happens to me all the time... Let me know when you think of it! I'd love to know what it is... I've got some other versions of this song on my hardrive, so perhaps I've already tried it in one of those, and you are feeling it telepathically! ;)
Actually, I do have some other versions of this song... Here's one from before I had the idea to put the echo pedal after the looper for the "Dub" effects:
Minus a few gaffs, I actually think my playing is better in this earlier version, and it has more melodic ideas in it than in the "dub" version. I went simpler on the "dub" version, mainly because I was operating a lot of stuff with my feet (the looper and the echo pedal), and so was concentrating more on that stuff than on the melody... Have a listen to that early version and maybe it will jog your memory! ;) ----------
@easyreeder: Thanks! I often get told that my songs sound like movie soundtracks... I quite like hearing that, as I take it to mean that I've evoked some basic feelings with my music, which is all I strive to do in the first place! Cheers! ----------
