Isaacullah, I think you may be putting 2 & 2 together to make 5? Jr was right handed so likely he played right way up (most upside "down players" are simply left handed, though som lefty's play with the harp the right way up, like Carey Bell did, Erroll Linton & me). Jr is holding the harp in the wrong hand for the photo, it's not a representative pic. Jr & many other artists have been recorded having to flip the harp over during a performance through picking it up/playing it the wrong way round...it happens. I'm sure most of us have done it.

Until Oskars came along I don't think any other manufacturers were putting writing on the combs like that. I'm sure Wells had done so many publicity shots where it didn't matter how you held the harp he just forgot.
On a side note, re: the Muddy/Mick Jagger clip posted in another recent thread. I was interested to see that both Wells (pre-Lee Oskar endorsement) and Mojo Buford were playing Golden Melodies.
