I would like opinons on what you think is the most responsive otb harmonica. Not concerned with overblows, etc. just responsiveness.

#1 for ootb responsiveness: Crossover
Other responsive harps I've played/owned/own: GM, Harpmaster, Delta Frost.
Have no experience with Manji or MBDeluxe. The one Special 20 I own isn't so responsive.

I have a complete set of lightly customized Marine Bands, my go to harps. Very responsive, well tuned and good volume. I recently acquired some Hering 1923 harps, un-used, several years old. They are eerily similar to my MBs. I think they are nearly as responsive as my customs and plenty loud. Except for the embossed covers, they are nearly identical to the MBs. Old tooling? (I know the Hering factory used to be the Latin American builder for Hohner) Anyway, I think they are great harps. Unfortunately, I have heard current production is very inconsistant and availability is a sketchy.

I have played Crossover,MB deluxe,Manji's,Special 20's and have found Marine Band 1896 to be most responsive harps for me.Also,Golden Melody that i just got from amazon is outstanding as well.Overblowed on 5 and 6 out of the box.You just can't beat marine bands imho.

Golden melodies have a great design to keep the air in the harp so I do like em
However the combs suck
I really like seydel harmonicas. 1847s are pretty much the epitome of great harps

I'd vote for Seydel Session Steel, with Manjis and the Hohner Crossover tied for a very close second.
Also, I haven't preferred Lee Oskar harps in years, but mine ARE very responsive out of the box. ----------

Tried em all ...nothing responds with the least amount of effort the way a Hohner Golden Melody does....overblowing or not.

The Special 20 and Golden Melody are the most responsive from my experience.

Any of the mid priced Hohners are good responsive harps out of the box. The Crossover is probably the most responsive, but any of the Marine Bands (classic/deluxe/crossover) are good, as is the Golden Melody and Special 20. Being a Hohner guy I can't really comment on Suzuki or Seydel, but I do hear good things about the Suzuki Manji and the Seydel 1847.

I appreciate everyones response. I played MB's in the 60's and old standbys. I really like the souls voice and hering 23, but the souls voice is no more and the qc on the herings was questionable. I really like the solist pro if it's optimized by Dave Payne. I may have to save a few pennies and try the crossover. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Crossover for me. I found I had to adjust my playing a little as they were often *too* responsive

Most responsive? By that measure I have to say my B-Radical is head and shoulders better than any other OTB harp. Too bad you can't get 'em..... ---------- /Greg

Well, yeah, I agree with you on the BRad. I've played one a few times. A friend of mine has one that he lets me play cause he don't play much at all. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.

of harps you can actually buy, i'd say Crossover and Marine Band Deluxe. only had one experience w/ the new sealed Marine Band 1896 ( i fixed one) so not enough data. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

From what I've played, SP20 and Seydel Blues Sessions were the most responsive in terms of easy playability. In terms of volume, Big Rivers are the loudest. ----------
