Anyone tried this harp? Look interesting? Chrome reeds that are 2.25 mm thick. Are they chuming the water again to see who will bite? I got an ad in the mail with this on sale for 50 bucks.
From Hohner website - " Featuring special heavy duty chrome reed plates that spec out to 2.25 mm thick, the new 225 Deuce and a Quarter harp produces thick rich tones that will stand up to abuse longer than most any other harmonicas. This heavy duty harp feels great in your hand and has a loud voice that really projects making it perfect for Blues and Rock. The “Deuce” is a custom harp designed for players that are ready to rock and who want to look really good while doing it. It is available in a limited quantities and only in the key of A (to accompany jams in the key of E, which is most guitar players favorite key). This harp features special black cover plates and a black plastic carrying case with custom Deuce & a Quarter graphics. Available while limited supplies last. "

My take on it - is that it's a strange mix of marketing aimed to counter the Seydel harps at potentially twice the price with chrome vs. stainless steel, and clearly marketing it toward those who value image over harp playing - does anyone that plays the harp need to be told that A is for the key of E in 2nd position? Nobody but beginners wanting to look "cool" while they play with the one song the band does in E. Granted, I can't knock it for its sound or playability based on their online ad for it, but the write-up, to me, suggests there's nothing more to it than flashy looks, and maybe an advantage - or simply a mere difference - in the chrome plates. The idea that it "stands up to abuse" might also be geared for that non-harmonica playing crowd that doesn't have a harp case and likes to engage in spontaneous wrestling while the harp is on their person.
Nonetheless, if I find them for less than 50 bucks I might buy one out of curiosity. I did that with a Blues Bender (a mere 17 dollars) to find out it was a dud, but if the Deuce and a quarter plays well as an A harp, might be fine for an oddball in the collection. My bet is it's just another cute marketing attempt via Hohner until I can hear something different from someone in the industry with credibility who didn't get paid to say it.

I hope it does not have 2.25mm thick reeds! That would take the exhaust from a jet engine to play!

Yes, what's the point in having bombproof 2.25mm reedplates when the reeds will need to swing so violently, their lives will surely be shortened. And what's the point of chrome reedplates which are covered with black covers - you can't see them.
Read about doubling up reedplates. They were OK but reedlife was drastically shortened.

I think it would be hard to screw this harmonica up. I've made harps with double plates before. The deal is reedplates have distortion, They bow up between the screws, even if you can't see that it is. A really thick plate won't bow like that, it lays flat against the comb. Thus, more air gets to the reed. It's louder. AND, on a thicker reedplate, the reed is in the slot longer... and, guess what... inside the reedslot is where all the air pressure is.
Better playing? Probably. I think it would be really hard to screw this up.
Longer reed life? Absolutely not.

I'm kind of late to post this. I just received mine today, from MF, and it may have been their very last one, since they can't be found on the website anymore.
Fellow posters are right, it's loud! Very airtight. Almost every reed is usable. 10 draw was the only squealer. Great tone. If I run across them again, I will buy two or three.

It's basically an MS harp with fancy graphics and the thicker MS Meisterklasse plates.
2.25mm refers to the total thickness of both reed plates together, not the thickness of each plate.
Frank traded his in the end... that beef jerky was too irresistible!

Harmonicanick, I don't think it was the Russians. I think it was someone in Scandinavia, but I don't remember which country. I'm also not sure whether the Deuce & a Quarter was actually involved in that deal, although he certainly had a Deuce & a Quarter at some point. It also may have been venison jerky. It's a pity so much of the historical record was lost in the Great Deleting. It's like someone took a surgical laser to the Library at Alexandria. Of course, if you were using poetic licence, and your poetic licence is up to date we'll just look the other way.
Of course, I'm just going from my ever more fallible memory, so it might have been Russians and a Deuce & a Quarter and beef jerky. It might also have been Libyans, plutonium and a flux capacitor. If only there was some way we could go back in time to check. :) ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer (A list of all sorts of useful threads)

HAH!! :) god i miss TNFrank! it is a mystery to me how anyone found him offensive. he was hysterical!
you know, when i tell people i play harp they react as if i said my favorite food is beef jerky washed down with Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
maybe we could lure him back with beef jerky? we could take up a collection. just a thought. Hope this helps.:)
never tried a Duece but i have used MeisterKlasse plates with black Pro Harp covers on a big river comb. i think the Duece has a wood comb ala the Blues Harp.
loud buggin harp! plays really well too. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

That harp kinda reminds me of the Steven Tyler signature series. I have the cheaper artist model and I liked it.
