Seems Hohner is putting MB and SP20 minor keys out of production.
Anybody speculating on why this might be? ----------

Hmmm, i wouldn't be surprised. lack of sales? too many players learning how to play more than first and second position?
sorta off topic, i have two ancient Hohner harmonic minor harps. they have a metal wrapping around the teeth of the comb. leak deluxe. i think they stopped doing too. a long time ago. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

Yeah, they are reducing keys and tunings--I bought a couple of SP20 harps in Low F from Ron when I found out they were being discontinued.

Even playing 3rd and 5th position doesn't necessarily give you the range and tone of a natural minor-tuned harp. It's a bummer. ----------

No need to be too concerned. You can easily tune a major harp to either harmonic or natural minor in about a half-hour, especially if you use a micro-engraver from Harbor Freight. I realize this is not as convenient as simply buying a minor tuned harp, but if if you really want the sound of a Marine Band or Special 20, this is a good option.

yeah, Ditto what Todd said. you just retune five reeds to make a harmonic minor harp. the three blow a whole step and the others only a half step. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

Minor keys really aren't used any more, and the minor key music from the past can be easily converted with software now. If you haven't heard the fixed / major key version of Beethoven's 5th, you should check it out. It is so nice to finally have a standard mode to compose in.

Minor keys are actually used a lot in modern music. There was an article a while back where they analysed a bunch of songs that charted over the last few decades and the trend had actually shifted strongly towards minor. Of course, there wasn't much harp in it either.
L.O. makes minors. I can play in 3rd and 5th, but it's not the same as a minor tuned harp. I've got both a natural and a harmonic minor. They are my go to harps when I'm just making stuff up on my own, and my bass player friend is fond of minors too. (Hmm, maybe I should rephrase that). Seydel will set you up with a minor key too.
Also, Spackle20, you should read this about Temperament. Think things are confusing now!
