Okay, my computer speakers are really starting to go. For a while one speaker has been dropping in and out, but now there is a popping on and off in the other speaker. I guess it's time to bite the bullet and get some new gear.

So, any suggestions for a budget set of PC speakers? (I use my monitor for a TV too, so if they could do double duty that would be a plus.) And my budget is definitely as far under $200 as I can get it.

I always had good luck with Benwin brand speakers before I became a strictly laptop/headphones kinda guy. Pretty affordable as I recall, even with a sub.

Hmm, under $70? Right now I have a set of Altec speakers that I think ran my $120 about 10 years ago. The subwoofer gets in the way, the cords don't reach very far, there is no headphone jack and no marking on the volume dial so you have to guess where the volume is set which is a real pain when your computer and whatever application you are using may have their own volume settings!

I actually do have some stereo speakers lying around already. That tuner might do the trick.

BOSE makes some killer speakers for computer...the speakers w/out the bass speaker are around $100 and sound excellent.

I "Line Out" to the "AUX" jack on an old "free off Craigslist" Technics Tuner and some speakers from 1979. Maybe that's too cheap, but it works for me.

There is no such thing as too cheap! I need a new keyboard and mouse too (my mouse lost it's scroll wheel and the keyboard has been without a wrist wrest for quite a while!) And that's just sitting in front of me at my desk... plus two hard drives that need data recovered, a couple broken harmonicas... :)

if, like me, you have an actual stereo system in your home (i know, i'm a dinosaur), you can buy a cable from radio shack for a few bucks and play your computer through that. sounds great, and is looud enough that i can play amplified and really shake the house.

I was actually a computer hardware enthusiast before I put my dreams of owning a $1000 computer and picked up a $35 Hohner Blues Harp. Anyhow, this is the best I can do for you ->

Logitech Z313 for $50 brand new. They come with a subwoofer and are a decent set for the price.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Logitech+-+Z313+2.1-Channel+Speaker+System+%283-Piece%29+-+Black/Silver/9427774.p;jsessionid=833B03F2160D520447F3B029A454AAC8.bbolsp-app06-32?id=1218104302605&skuId=9427774&st=Logitech%20Z1313&cp=1&lp=1

These Bose Companion 2 speakers are usually $99 but this link to BestBuy claims they are $89

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Bose%26%23174%3B+-+Companion%26%23174%3B+2+Series+II+Multimedia+Speaker+System+%282-Piece%29/7933686.p?id=1151657980013&skuId=7933686&st=Bose%20companion&cp=1&lp=1

I bought these and have used these and they are quality for their prices. I recommend anything by Logitech over $30, Boss over $100, or Sony over $40. Good luck friend. I wouldn't be recommending them if they weren't quality.

I like the JBL Creature Speakers. They look cool as hell, sound great and are cheap. They cost about $85 in the USA I believe.
