All:
ElkRiverHarmonicas, Bluzdude46, and Dutchbones are now official Gussow-deputized moderators of the blues harp forum.
The first two guys said they'd be willing to help. While deputizing them, my eyes skimmed the long list of gold solid citizens here and I realized that Dutchbones is a hard-timer and somebody we can count on.
What are the official duties of moderators? For the time being, they're pretty much one thing: combat spam.
Wait a minute, you say. What spam? We don't have any spam!
Well, we haven't for a while, but we may well get some now.
The second purpose of this thread is to announce that I have now dropped the requirement for registration approval. Anybody who registers for this forum is automatically approved.
This means that many spam bots will now be automatically approved.
The three moderators will have the unenviable duty of deleting that spam if and when it shows up.
If all these changes take us in the wrong direction, I will of course be quite willing to return things to the old format. But I'm always willing to try something new. And this new format has one great advantage: I no longer have to spent any time wading through spam to approve membership applications.
Please thank your new moderators for their selfless sacrifice to the almighty board!

I think everybody should use their real name. The boards that I frequent that have such a policy do not have the same issues as most boards.
Using real names will temper the attitudes of keyboard commandos as well. ----------

Some of us prefer to moderate our web presence. I do not do facebook, myspace or youtube videos either. I would prefer it if future employers do not find a liability in my web presence. I have no need to hide who I am (other than the reason stated) as many here know me by my real name. Perhaps there is also a part of the allure of being a blues man that requires you to take on a persona or name.
I'll gladly back up anything I say. However, most of the time you will just get my honery side digging you for just a little fun, or holding you to the fire of your own logic.

Although I sympathize with Buddha's suggestion, I also very much understand where Kingo is coming from.
Handles are certainly allowed here. I'm going to keep mine. I think this board would be less fun, frankly, without a dozen different varieties of "blues," "bluz," and "harp" in the monickers.
And I'd miss Violin Cat.

I use the same moniker everywhere. My name is too common. When I forget where I've been having an unusual name helps me Google myself and I'm too lazy to make a list of monikers.

"Unsubscribe"? What does that mean? Don't you just stop coming to the site and stop posting if you're through with it? This is a public access forum. Anyone can read it, you only have to be pre-approved to do any posting. Maybe I'm just enough Luddite to not get it.

I don't get it. Why are people leaving? Adam, parhaps it would be better to delegate others to approve the members, it might take less time than combating spam.

So far I haven't noticed any deluge of spam. Nor have I noticed mass defections. I have no idea why Christelle chose to de-register, but I'm fine with that. (The alternative to de-registering is simply...not to post. But perhaps it feels more dramatic or conclusive to be de-registered.)
phogi: There is no way for me to delegate the process of approving members. I said that on another thread, but I'll say it again here. All I can delegate to moderators is the ability to edit and delete posts.
I really don't think there's any problem at this point. This thread seems to be prickling with little problems, but that's....well, that's what happens when you ask a bunch of harmonica players to change a lightbulb.
Q: How many harmonica players does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: One to unscrew the bulb, one to customize the socket, and all the rest to stand around and insist that THEIR customized sockets overblow more smoothly.

HA!!! Too true Adam... too true...
Don't worry guys, drama queens always return to the scene of the crime to look for destruction. It's what fuels them. Everyone who leaves with a grandiose protest will be back again and again. They are reading my post now, I guarantee it - probably with a hmph...
If there are people who can't take a little confusion or time registering are going to have bigger fish to fry than harmonica playing. (voice mail menus, income tax forms, how to operate their cell phone, Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese?)
Maybe if you fail at registering, you should be quickly directed to a website for life coaching and instruction following.
I think it is funny that we are even having a discussion about it, other than Adam is a generous guy for allowing our input.

Kingobad,
I disagree. I've left a forum that I frequented for 10 years because the quality of discourse disolved into constant fights, squalling, potty humor, and people talking trash about each other. I decided I did not want that energy in my life. This is dispite the fact that a number of posters are people that I spent alot of time with, and that the forum was centered on a real life, tight knit community.
Fortunatly, everone plays nice here. Right?

Thanks to the new volunteers!
I'll play by any rules once stated, but would actually lay claim to the fact that snakes has been my nickname (got it from the baseball diamond) for over a decade and I have the tattoo to prove it. [I get a kick out of little kids eyes going wide when they see it and so I tell 'em, "Yes, this is the tatoo your mother told you never to get."] LOL!

That's funny, Adam--but you might need three or four harpers to decide the brand of the bulb--and it'll NEVER happen at all if anybody decides to gap the bulb!

You also need 50 noobs to complain that the bulb is broken before someone throws the switch.

How tight should one cup one's light bulb? And should one tongue block that light bulb, or lip purse it? And most importantly, how will th e style of the aforementioned variables affect that light bulb's tone? (and does a wood light bulb make better light than a plastic one?) ---------- ------------------
