Hi
the other day I picked up a PG58, cable and mic stand at a boot sale in very good nick and at a good price [£12]. I got to thinking that I might try it with a harp lock instead of the rack and thought that I ought to try out the general idea of it first so looked for a way to temporarily fix a harp to the mic stand. I came out of the shed with all manner of clamps and tape and then took one look at the mic clip. The nearest mic to hand was a Huang Silvertone and as you can see in the picture below that it fits a treat.

I'm not sure if this idea has come up before.

Next thing, does any one know off hand if the thread on the PG58 is the same as the SM58 which the harp lock is designed for?

and has anyone in the UK got a harp lock that they want to sell [the magnetic one not the original velcro one]

I can't tongue-block using a harp-lock. Has anyone else tried?

I have held off on the harplock as I mainly play SP20s with Turbolids. Sounds like a great idea tho--
and I don't TB much.

I have found out that the PG58 grille thread is 35mm and the SM58 is 30mm.
Mr. Harplock tells me that I *could* enlarge the hole in the stainless steel with a grindstone in the electric drill.

@lumpy: Brilliant! That's one of those "why didn't I ever think of that" things! All you need is another mic stand right next to it, pointing the mic at the back of the harp, and you are set!

Gnarly, it might not be pretty but maybe you could use some of that magnetic sticky tape on the covers?

I have got the harp lock, knowing that the hole is too small for the PG58 but I was going to enlarge it, but looking at it closer, it looks like the harp will foul on the grill of the mic. :^(
I need to find an sm58 to check where the harp should be situated in relation to the grille.

I have a harplock for my SM58... works well. However if you use it on a stand with a small round base AND your lips are dry and dragging on the covers, well it tends to move the stand around, with or without a boom. I've done it both ways.

Perhaps a tripod base and lip balm would be a better proposition. I think it's a clever idea and I think it's friendlier than the alternative.

The HarpARM is a different product that works regardless of the microphone. www.harparm.com

I wound up buying a DuoHarp insert (it's magnetic) for my K&M rack, took off all the Turbo Harp covers--now I wind up with the harp upside half the time.
Progress?
