I think Roland's products blow away the pignose. Worth checking out the micro cube the cube rx or the cube street. They can be clean or fairly dirty and have built in effects and most models have a line in if you wanted to arrange compositions on a computer to back you up.
The cube street is my current busking amp at 6 watts and it is great has modeling which is great for guitar and in the streets case it has a seperate input to function as a mini vocal pa while playing if you cared. Got it for about 200 during a gc sale. Oh and the batteries last for about 2 full days of busking if using good normal aa batteries.
As for Mics you can make anything work but a really hot bullet can be way too much for some battery amps causing gnarly clipping and feedback.
I use most of my effects rig and a a shure 533sa usually but sometimes a bullet is it. The amp isn't particular either way.
A sm57 would be great. For small amps I tend to lean towards a cleanish mic, dirty amp and the opposite if playing a big amp.

agree, the pignose is ok for what it is, but its a 40yo design, and does tend to sound pretty one dimensional IMHO. these days i mainly use mine for an ipod amp... ----------

I will defer to Willspear on the Roland products. I've never used them but have heard consistently good things. I have a Pignose, and I'm thinking of getting another one at $80 so I can run both at once. I have four mics, a Bottle 'O Blues, a Shaker Mad Dog, an old JT130(?) and a custom mic from Front 'n Center. The Pignose seems happy with any of them. I notice significant differences among mics when I play through my newly-acquired Bassman, though.

I don't know about the loop pedal. My first response would be that it's fine, but with all the natural high gain distortion that a Pignose and its cousins put out, it could become problematic.
Pignoses are good, solid, portable amps. But hands down, the best one out there is the Roland Micro Cube. Another good one is the Danelectro Hodad DH-1, which seems to have an edge over the Honeytone with twin speakers, trem, and echo.
In terms of a mic, I know that the Bottle O' Blues is very good with mini-amps. I'd agree with Willspear, the 57 would probably suit your needs, but you'd need an impedance converter. May I suggest you try and find an Akai DM13? Trust me, you won't be sorry you did. They're fantastic!

I use a shaker dynamic mic through my pignose. I also run an Akai headrush looping pedal through it with no issues. The pedal needs a mains supply but it sounds great. The shaker mic perfectly compliments the Pignose, i saw Steve Harvel use this rig on the forum and it sounded good. The only problem (and to me it's not really a problem) is that it does give a gritty dirty tone and not much else, It's a hard amp to geta clean sound through but if you like overdriven the shaker/pignose is a very good choice.

@Oisin & tolga7t
I can't view videos at work unfortunately. Exactly which Pignose is being used here? And for that matter, which Pignose are we all collectively discussing here? The 7-100 Legendary, the Hog 20, or the Hog 30? I'm guessing the 7-100, but I've seen harpers use the Hogs too.
I used to use my Shaker Retro Rocket with my little Marshall MG10CD. It could get fairly distorted and dirty, but at 10 SS watts and a 6 1/2" speaker, it was still always very bright. Only mic I ever got that Marshall to sound ballsy with is my Akai DM13.

Hey, tolga. I finally got the harp with the Reynolds comb you sold me.
I JUST got a Fender Mustang Mini. 6 C cell powered. I haven't done anything but run the Les Paul through it a bit. I can make it sound like ANYTHING I want it to. Along with the Fuse software, I had quite a bit of fun. 16 storable user presets and, fortunately, very easy to restore factory settings. I can't see why an electro harp player couldn't get any sound they might wish out of a Mustang.
The cool part----only $129, all over the web, with free shipping. I got mine from Sweetwater (of course).

Just when I got a paddle, they added more water to the creek.
