I dunno about any of you, but I LOVE Wikipedia! It's saved me from boredom countless times at work, at home, on the go thanks to my phone...

One thing I love about it is being able to contribute additional information to articles that are lacking significant details. Like today, I added new Hohner models on the Hohner article. A few months ago I wrote entirely new sections on the article entitled "Gibson Kalamazoo Electric Guitar" to cover the Kalamazoo Bass and the amplifiers as well.

Just curious...anyone else enjoy doing this too? Or am I just that much of a neo-dweeb? :-)

neo-dweeb!
the problem with wikipedia is that ANYONE can contribute, whether they are knowledgeable or not.
(i am not calling you unknowledgeable.)
i go to the site for basic facts. i might get drawn into reading further, but i dont take it as gospel.
but even if there was a subject which i consider myself an expert- M&Ms come to mind- i dont think i would waste my time.

got to run now- i think i need to check some facts!

I tried to put one up for Spontobeat but couldn't figure out the process. If anyone is interested I can pay in studio time, cds, and many thanks. Walter

Reading the edits and history pages can be quite enlightening. There are definitely a bunch of self appointed "guardians" of Wikipedia.

Heh heh heh take what you read with a grain of salt on this site. I usually do,but found out that Wikipedia is not an ironclad source of golden info. Right Hawkeye ;)?
I thought the info I read on the Kalamazoo 2 was an answer to a search I did on RMS power output. Not. As BronzeWailer says, it is a good starting point for answers, but certainly not the final say.

We tried to organize a blues harmonica portal, but we ran into issues with the gatekeepers opinion about it's importance and we got deleted. :( After that I got kind of put off by the whole thing. Still, for all the complaints about accuracy, every study I've seen seems to show that it's actually more accurate than traditional encyclopedias. It seems people who care about a subject write better stuff than people who get paid to do it. (citation needed)

Every now and then if I'm reading an article I'll edit grammar mistakes. Once I searched the term 'mail' and noticed they didn't have an article covering it as a kind of armor. I made a stub. I went back a couple months later and people had gone nuts and turned it into a huge full page. I was just too frustrated with the couple editors I'd run afoul of to ever get excited about it again.

Nate,

I feel ya, I was thinking about contributing an entry or two (non-harp related), so I looked at a few topics and the discussion pages. I couldn't believe the minutiae that was being argued about. I thought...no way.. stay away from this insanity.
