Not meaning to show off here. I'm getting excited about a new batch of phallic symbols...I mean harp mics.. Seriously, one can find better mods out there. These are players mics designed for tone, good looks, as well as durability. The next best thing is powder coating. No thanks. Not yet, anyway. I only know what works for me. And several customers I have sold mics to over the years. They think so too.... This is just one way to chop and customize the Astatic 200. I am trying to finish (9) now. I have; -(1) 200S. -(2) jt30 w/vc's, -(2) 520's (big shell,no VC), -(4) 200's (btw, these are with the grill switched a qtr turn) And one is jacked funny. It'll have character..or mojo, when and if it get's finished.... These are not easy, nor cheap, to make. The labor with cosmetics, and all the bells n whistles, really does add up. Like Christmas ornaments...price range will be $175-$250. I consider CR's to be pricier, and rarer than hens teeth. I also have CM's which will suffice as good, or better in some cases..I got some sweeeeeeeeeeet elements lined up for these shells. I can't wait to finish em and get to that stage. Anyway, enough rambling.

I'll use every one for a couple gigs, test it out, to make sure it's good enough to send out, into the big bad world of blues harp land. The hardware and final touches can be a bitch sometimes. I have gotten more careful with every batch. Quite often you'll have to go back and strip it several times. The reason I do so many at a time. I'll usually end up with a fair number of better than decent looking (and playing) custom harp mics. I can't just do ONE...because the set up, prep, the construction of the bathroom spray booth, is too time consuming...to do just one. I collect parts for years.
this stage is still very early in the process. After looking closely at my handy work, I scan for defects. In the batch above, there are going to be casualties already. I found a couple not worthy of harpmicdome. I strip em and start over several times before I am satisfied. the secret lab, where the magic takes place...excuse me, I have to take a leak...bachelor pad for sure, eh?
I install the screw on close to the tail, for better cupping.

It's fun, very rewarding, and always keeps me in good gear, too. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or idea's. I'm open to other ways of doing things, for sure...thanks for letting me hang, and show n tell....

Very cool! My bathroom has been called a "spray booth" before - though I've never painted in there......
For those who don't know Kevin - he is a professional wood refinisher so he knows a thing or two about this kind of work. I've seen his mics before - they're gorgeous! ---------- /Greg

WOW! my fav is the tangerine JT-30 but the white and the red astatic 200 chops are AWESOME!
all of my mics are MojoKane mics, except for a chameleon biscuit by dave kott. i did get the kott from MojoKane though.. i have a canary yellow 200 that i'm afraid to take out of its' golf sock.
oohh, the precious!
he applies many coats of gloss and pays serious attention to things like humidity. too humid, no spray. it'll dry cloudy. so he'll wait a few hours. like greg said, the dudes a pro.
oh, and his paint doesn't flake off like the heat baked enamel on the original hohner blues blasters. that stuff comes off in sheets. ----------

Man....I think I just need to move to you guys' apartment building. I could have a one stop shop between the two of you, and Greg just a hop across the drink for my amp needs! ----------

Thanks guys, all of you are funny, too! Greg, Pistolcat, Littlebubba, MP, Rubes, HawkeyeKane. more later..
Pistolcat, I took my Mom, and sis, out to Red Lobster. Gave my mom some money. I told her I love her and she's the best Mom in the universe! Then, we went to Baskins Robbins and all had a hot fudge royal sundae. Thanks for asking.. The simple little things are often the most remembered and cherished. She is 87 yrs young.
Hawk, funny how it happened this way. I'm cool with it. We also have a skilled cabinet maker, guitar, and amp builder, living a couple blocks away, too. Too good, eh? My gratitude to the higher forces at work.
greg, I may take you up on it someday...You know me, I've been threatening it for a long time.
Rubes, no worries, by the time these are done, you just might be ready for another flavor. It's not wrong to have more than you probably need. I plan to offer them to MBH members 1st. And I will also make them affordable, too. I have a recent unwelcome car bill surface. So, these may get done quicker...than the usual forever and a day time frame..
Littlebubba, that's funny! I get pangs of GAS, when I look at mic porn.. too.
