hmmmm.... That looks a lot like the rack that our very own oldwailer built for himself. Let's see if he pops his head in on this thread and enlightens us some more!

I use to play dan lynch's in NYC. John was a regular there. IMO that harp rack sound stunk. It was tinny, hollow. He wasn't a very good harp player IMO on top of it. I think it was just a basic bob dylan harp rack modified with a plastic tube and a mic in it. There were no other real choices for harp racks back then than that model. I started on it and still use it today (unmodified) Walter

Kingo, I kind of like it. It's kind of Faulkner-esque. Welcome aboard hat!

I found racks were a big pain in the neck and gave up on them. I did briefly use a basic Hohner rack that smelled like formaldehyde. Once the plastic section was removed that went away without any effect on function. A little bending of the frame made it more comfortable, but I didn't like losing the hand effects of having the harp right, well, in my hands.

I think the trick is you have to treat playing harp in a rack as if you are learning a whole extra instrument. Lots of people throw it on for effect and it sounds alright, but few people are going to wow other harp players playing in a rack (Walter, above, is one of the exceptions to that rule.)

I've seen some other DIY variations of trying to mount the microphone to the rack with some sort of built in cup effect, but I haven't seen anything like that commercially. There are higher end racks available that are more adjustable but I haven't used any so I'm no help there. Again, welcome aboard. :)

I don't know what that tube thing is, or how it works. I have a new prototype I'm working on, but it isn't ready for release.

My harp holder invention requires the use of a regular rack to hold the holder--the one I use, and I think maybe the best one in the world, is here: http://www.slk-harmonica-rack.com/index_en.html

I think the one here: http://www.builderofstuff.com/enr.html would also be great, but I don't have one. . .

There is a great song called Jacket King about a guy who is known around town for his great Jackets until one day someone else starts wearing jackets!

Show me your eye and I'll black it!
I'm the man in this town with the jacket racket!

@KC69--I bought mine from Harponline--but they've closed their doors. I thought they were available direct from the maker at the link I posted above, but I don't know for sure--it's just the link they posted on Harponline's page when they closed. . .
