Don't know if anyone's seen these before, but I spotted them on Amazon the other day.
Personalized Stainless Steel Harmonica
I've written them and all they know is that it's a Hohner of some kind. For $18 it's prolly a Hot Metal or a Bluesband. But if for nothing else, $18 isn't a bad price for some personalized cover plates that can perhaps be transplanted to a better harp. ----------

I wonder how much it would cost to just take a harp to an engraver. ---------- Tommy

The engraver would first have to have a blank cover plate to do what's done here. I mean, yeah, an engraver could etch letters into a designer plate off to the side, but if you want it completely personalized.... ----------

At some point in the process I'm guessing all harmonica covers are blank (unless the lettering is stamped at the same time? I suppose they might do that on Lee Oskars?) Even if they engraved before stamping it wouldn't take much more effort just to skip the engraving... so, has anyone asked the big companies if it's possible to get blanks? I've got at least one cheap set of covers that weren't stamped, but I came by it through a garage sale, so I don't know it's history. Danneker harmonicas seem to have custom covers.
I know Seydel can provide long body covers for 1847's on special request, and I've seen pictures that are stamped for 1847's even although 1847's usually don't have long covers.
Of course, you'd have to contact the company, see if they offer blank covers, buy them and then take them to an engraver. I'm not sure how the laser engravers at the mall work. I don't know if they can correct for the shape of an object or not. They can engrave photographs onto pendants, but pendants are flat. Some long cover harps have much flatter profiles than other harps. I'm surprised no harp company makes different covers for different keys. Instead of having hole numbers you could have the note chart, including overblows, or circle of fifths, or any other useful information. Lee Oskars do list the cross harp key on the comb. :) ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer (A list of all sorts of useful threads)

I got blank plates (on a complete harmonica) six years ago. I had them laser engraved for groomsman gifts.
The laser thingy isn't really etched in and will discolor. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas VHT Special 6 Mods

I think that places like Things Remembered take things that are sterling silver or stainless steel and actually use a pointed etching tool. I'm gonna check in with my local store to see exactly what kind of materials are best for what they do. ----------
