Could anybody tell me what the sp20's coverplate profile is like? I love my MB and crossover but whenever I play my Lee Oskar lip pursed embouchure my mouth cramps up after a while. I also have this tendency with my suzuki promaster. Is the sp20's profile as high as the Lee oskar? ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

Their plates are pretty darn close. However, I've found that the edges of the SP20's comb are a little rounder, which makes it a little easier on my own embouchure. ----------

Hey Pistolcat.
I get ya man, I can't play lee oskars, too fat and blunt if you know what I mean?
SP20's and MB's feel just about the same and suit me fine.
I gotta tell ya, one day try a Seydel Solist Pro. Feels great, sounds great!

I have MB, SP20 and Crossover and have no problem with any of those. I also have Delta Frost and Harpmaster and those too are the same. I get that lip cramp you speak of when I play my Seydel Blues session. It's just too fat. The Solist pro is a really nice feeling harp as Rich pointed out however I don't like them as much as I like the Crossover in sound or playability. "And" if I play too long I get the lip thing....they are a tad thicker. There are no hole numbers on the plates which is nice though. Something I don't like about the crossover. Everyone raves about the Solist Pro but while I think it's a good harp, it just doesn't do it for me. You "might" cramp up though. ---------- Tommy

@Rich - Thanks Rich. Yeah I know what you mean. They're great for tongue blocking though... Yeah I will. Seydel doesn't sell yet in sweden but I could from somewhere I guess. Also heard a rumour that Dick Sjöberg was going to be Seydel's retailer in Sweden. ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

@Pistolcat
Yeah, sorry man. I meant the SP20 and the LO were pretty similar in profile.
In terms of Seydel, try getting in touch with Thomas Jensen. If I'm not mistaken, I think he's a Seydel rep in Copenhagen. ----------

The Promaster is much smaller than the LO. If you are having cramping with BOTH of these harps the problem isn't the hardware--it's most likely your embouchure.

Holding them next to each other the SP20 and the standard MB have pretty similar cover plate profiles, at least in front. The Sp20's are much more closed up in the back. The big difference in the front is the recessed reed plate on the Sp20. It's like the Lee Oskar that way, but the shape is different. I don't have a Deluxe or a Crossover to compare it to though.
I used to notice the difference a lot more, but by switching harps frequently it got so it doesn't make a difference to me anymore. Once you've played a Hohner Puck everything other harp seems pretty much the same shape by comparison. :)

Thanks for the feedback Tommy. Hvyj - of course it's my embouchure. It doesn't fit the lee oskars, doesn't fit a trumpet niether. I could probably work on that but it's not worth the time. I just lay off the trump... Sorry, lee oskars. ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube

as an afterthought pistolcat, do you tilt the harp when you play?
You might find you can relax your embouchure and still get a good seal if you do.

I do a lot of slanting and tilting and a lot of other cheats to improve my seal. I try to work on embouchure whenever I can but it's a lot of other areas too that need work. And there's only so much hours in the day. If your really intrested you can watch my YouTube. There's a video called midnight in Moscow where I play my LO. The only LP in it is the intro on the low end because I had trouble with reed sticking... ---------- Pistolkatt - Pistolkatts youtube
