I've just salvaged one Lee Oskar and a Marine Band which were suffering from poor response, flat sounding 3 and 4 draw that did not respond well to filing. Soaked reed plates in malt vinegar for an hour, rinsed and wafted with a hairdryer. Miraculously both are now playable, and with no aftertaste. Saved a few quid too!

Vinegar is pretty good at disolving the mineral solids that build up from well water on my pluming fixtures. I am not surprised it works to disolve the deposits on the harmonica brass. I had not thought of using in on a harp but it makes sense. How long does the vinigar taste last?

Not to mention it tastes great playing while eating fish!

I have a harp I experimented sealing the comb with hot vegtable oil. It now smells and tastes like tortilla chips.

If you add some salt to your vinegar, it will also remove the tarnish from the brass... Vinegar and salt is THE way to clean a harp. Safe, effective, and all natural!
