Hi Welcome here

If you're back on the harmonica after 20 years, you might consider seriously trying to understand how to breath with your instrument before getting to songs...concentrate on long notes, feeling comfortable with them

hey thanks,
its been a couple weeks the breathings goin well doin a hour or two on jam tracks daily. jammed with my boss the other day he has a pretty kick ass band here in boston. kept up with him it was fun and he said that was "tasty"
i took it as a compliment hes pretty much at the top of the food chain around here. when i played back in the day i was never to serious about it, self taught jammin at bars and some gigs with bands,,, basically to meet chicks,,lol. more serious now wanna learn become a better player. i think once its in you it never leaves so im gonna let it bust out see what happens.

dpcsix, first off, welcome aboard!

Second, try Googling for the harmonica tab, that usually tells the key. Sometimes you can get it from other instrument tab too.

Third, and this a bit of the pain in the butt, (there is probably other software that does this, but this was my favorite)... there is a plug-in for Windows Media Player called Muse-On. Unfortunately it's not supported by newer versions but in a pinch you can download an older version of WMP and then use the plug in. I shows you want chords are being played and gives you a suggested key, all as a nice visualization. Then it crashes after a few songs and WMP reboots with it disabled. Still, if you want to work through a big list of songs and find the key it's the fastest way. There is actually a tag option for song key that you can edit in WMP. Almost no one includes the information by default, but if you add it as you go through a play list it's really useful. You can even sort your songs by key, which is really useful when you want to just keep playing. There is some other software out there that will do it, but this one is free. (Most of the other software is for DJ's. When you are remixing songs key is really important.)

Maybe if enough of us sent emails to the guy at Muse-On he'd update it.

I was playing at a blues jam weekly in Plymouth and the drummer (Joe) kept urging me to come to the Cantab in Cambridge on Sunday nights. Guess it's a great jam and well attended, too far for me to drive, but you might want to check it out.

The Cantab is a great spot to jam. I used to go every Sunday until I started working regularly. Doesn't really start until about 10 or 10:30-ish depending on how crowded it is (like if it's a Sunday before a holiday).

Joe Bellomo, Candy Delgato and Lenny Bradford are an awesome house band. Joe runs the jam now and does a good job. If you like R&B and Motown, it's THE place.

I just went to Wally's in Boston for their Monday blues jam. Wally's is about as close as you can get to a juke joint in the north. It's small, crowded and their are plenty of good players. Don't attempt to bring any gear... there is no room for it!
