I wonder if they realize the possibility that by supporting the movement and what it stands for, they could in effect lower their own prices.....?

Just sayin'.

Not looking at the politics. Just Hohner's angle.

It seems a slightly cynical marketing ploy that Hohner really doesn't need to be involved in. I haven't read much into the politics and don't intend to and I certainly haven't intended to make that the subject.

Hohner is a byword for harmonica. They're not going to increase sales by a bunch of people blowing on harmonicas. I think they've goofed here.

I just don't understand why they would want to associate themselves with anything other than music.

To me it's as crazy as Dr Pepper sponsoring this.

Just weird. Any Hohner guys here have an explanation?

Hmm, my guess is that they figure that there best chance to get someone to play harmonica is to put a harmonica in someone's hands. If they are breaking even on it, from a business point of view, it's just marketing.

That said, I have no idea where Hohner comes down on the politics of it. I've been kept out of at least one public space because I had a harmonica with me. In a down economy a harmonica may be a better choice than a guitar. It's certainly better than giving them vuvuzelas. :)

In a world of harmonica newbs we will be kings!

edit:
I'm assuming they'll all be in C. Someone could probably sabotage the whole thing by passing enouth C#'s.

This is insane. A protest in the USA against social and economic inequality and corporate greed. A protest started by Canadians. A protest now being sponsored by a German company. A German company that will be providing harmonicas that are made in communist china because labor is cheaper there (trust me, 1$ harmonicas will be Chinese made).

The protesters are stupid for allowing this And Hohner is being stupid for supporting a cause that is targeting exactly what they are doing.

George Carlin said it best. " think about how stupid the average person is, now just think that half the people are even more stupid than them!"

Hohner USA (From their Facebook page)
"To everyone upset by the recent post concerning Occupy Wall Street, the snippet of text in the post about the Being Beings art project was taken from their site and I understand why you might be upset. NO PROFITS WERE DONATED TO OCCUPY WALL STREET BY HOHNER and we apologize for it sounding that way. The Being Beings group is purchasing the harmonicas from us for this event to give away. Anytime a charitable group that we have a good relationship with wants to give away harmonicas we either donate them or sell them at a discounted rate. Hohner does not endorse political causes, we endorse music."

Not a particularly tactful distancing. A better PR guy might have spun it so both sides came away thinking Hohner was on their side.

I'd like to get a recorded copy of the results.

By the statistical criteria definition, I am the one percent. I'm also "the rich" according to our Esteemed Leader.

Thus, I need a recording of the 10,000 harp low-end dirge so that I can play lead out over the top of the Little People. They can sit back and eat cake.
