The MBH Blow Your Brains Out 3 Voting Thread.

Important.
Please, DO NOT hijack this thread for any purpose other than voting or commenting on the BYBO3 harp playing which you enjoyed most. It will make counting the votes easier. Thanks.

There has been an excellent response yet again and the harp playing has stepped up another level this time round. The quality of playing and recording both in video and audio is quite stunning. Everyone has made a sterling effort and overcome a lot of technical difficulties to take part.

All MBH members can participate and are encouraged to vote, even though you may not have entered. Any technique tips or general harp playing comments will I'm sure, be gratefully received by your fellow members, but please remember, we are only doing this for fun so there is room for honesty but not rudeness. Don't forget you can also comment and "Like" on the video channels.

How will it work?

Vote for the one you like most or up to three in descending order of preference and post them to this thread. Points will be awarded accordingly. 3 for your first choice, 2 for your second choice and 1 for your third choice.

I will generate a list of players with their points and the top three players with the most points will be the BYBO3 Champions in 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. The winners will then be put onto the BYBO Wall of Honour.

Voting will close at midnight on 14th November. If there is anyone who could help by verifying the results, I'd be most grateful.

Good Luck everyone. Keep it clean and legal.

Now I hand it over to you.

Thanks for making this the best challenge yet.

Dang... after watching everyone's entries I realize I need a metronome...or to play with a backing track. Anyway, my faves are:

1- Jordanchudan with "Sore Eyes"

2- Ant138 Always solid

3- Bronzwailer with "Shirk in Progress" I've always had a little place in my heart for that fox chase sound

1. camiloharper - nice phrasing!
2. Ant138 - solid tone, good TB
3. Mewin' Cat - I'm not one to like rapid scales, but the pauses and effects put into it make it worthy of my vote.

Congratulations to everyone. Very high caliber playing all around.

Here are my votes, based on first impressions and little analysis:

1) Heart2Harp for great tone and musicality and for leveling the playing field a bit by going out of your comfort zone and by not singing. You are a great performer.

2) Camiloharper. I was very impressed by your work here. You made first position playing sound very interesting with great phasing and licks.

3) Jordanchudan. You've been working hard and have started to put together the whole package: tone, original compositions, self-accompaniment. Excellent stuff.

Honourable mentions to bronzewailer's second entry and for Isaac's loop fest with CBG. Oh, and I loved Walter Tore's entry too, and Kingobad's; so many excellent entries....

Well that was a difficult job to pick the three top vids from so many great entries and i changed my choices several times till i reached my final 3 so here we go.
First, Kingobad, for the shear skill involved in this performance, great stuff.
Second, Walter Tore for just totaly being the real deal.
Third, KyzerSosa great licks great playing and it really swings!

1. Sore Eyes by Jodanchudan. Described my driving experience this morning to a T.
2. Ant138's inside one. Great tone and groove.
3. Isaacullah's "Flow". Atmospheric and evocative.

I liked a lot of the entries so well done everybody. And thanks to TookaTooka for organising.

Some great listening in this lot. Very hard to determine choice as it boils down to what one likes. No analysis at all.

Well this has been SUPER hard. We are GOING to have to have an "aftermath" thread to get to discussing some of the noteworthy submissions that we liked but couldn't quite put in out top 3 list. When choosing my list, I just went with what moved me the most, which in hindsight seems to be the submissions that seem to be the most "fully developed" as stand alone performances. They are the ones that I can envision hearing performed live and being fully satisfied as is.

#1: jodanchudan for Sore Eyes. Simply amazing and so evocative. Tasty playing and excellent use of space. Loved it!

#2: Bronzewailer for "Shirk in Progress". Dig that country blues swing! So much going on in that, and I am going to be spending some time with the slow-downer and learning. Amazing!

#3: Ant132 for his first submission. Great tone and phrasing. Tasty use of ornaments, and very good feel. That was a complete track, and you could feel it. Well done!

Honorable mentions go to: MrSo&So (Loved your take on St. James! You were my top pack for sure.), Clams Harplayer (Sounded good, but would have loved to have heard it amped! I'll be stealing that lick man!), Arman27 (great sound, but it felt a bit rushed. I'd like to hear you do it again and take your time with it), ad KyzerSosa (great feel to it. You were in my top pack too!). Well done to EVERYONE who submitted. Mighty fine job, gents!

Finally, thanks to tookatooka for organizing this again! hip hip hooray!

Wow, what a forum. We have some really good players on here.

Thank you to everyone who has voted for me so far , i really do appreciate it:o)

My favorites are as follows:-

#1- JodanChudan - Sore Eyes. The tone the phrasing, absolutly harp perfection to me. I also loved Guyger counter.

#2 - KyzerSosa - I love the groove and esspecially the tone.

3# - Isacc -Flow. I love the beats and the harp just seemed to glue it all together.

Runner up - Clams Harper, i loved that groove and harp lick, it reminded me of a Red hot Chilli's guitar lick(Rollercoster)

Kingobad was also up there with a great entry:o)

2.Walter Tore.....his music is good for the soul.

3. kingobad.......had me tappin my foot...great groove.

Dishonorable mention.......me ..for lack of musicality in my phrasing and waiting until the last night and four beers later to try something.

Big thanks to took!

Mewing cat, Arman37, harpdude 61. You guys have serious chops! I found myself wanting to play like each of you during parts of your videos.

Gmacleod15, Did you ever see the Blair witch project? I was waiting for something to jump out and scare the shit out of me. Anyway it took balls to do a whole song like that.

Phillipe and Bronzwailer are tied for 3rd. place. I just liked both their vibes.

Ant and Camillo gotta be neck and neck for close to first.

But My #1 Favorite was Joadanchudan cuz he plays harp like butta'

I could say something good about everybody but I'll just think it.
Thanks Tooka

Very difficult to pick just three - there are plenty of great entries. And thanks for the votes guys!

1 Walter Tore - incredible dynamics, phrasing and technique

2 Ant's amped entry - just love the traditional Chicago Tongue-blocked sound

3 kingobad - I'm jealous; I can't coordinate harp and guitar at all!

I also wanted to get bronzewailer and dog face in the list - both have great chops and tone.

I don't much like voting cause there's always recordings you really enjoy that there isn't room for in a top 3. Narrowing the final 6 to 3 for me wasn't so fun. I also tried to concentrate on harmonica playing alone since that is something all the recordings have in common.

1. Camilo Harper
2. Bluesharper
3. Isaacullah

As others have said this was a tough choice. To help me decide I rated each entry on appeal and technical ability. I weighted appeal a bit stonger than ability.
My scoring was very close and my top three were tied. On another day I probably would have choosen others.

Well done all. It has been an honour to throw my hat in with such fine players.

Thanks for watching my video (campfire). My goal was to dazzle you with the beautiful scenry so as to mask my blues skills, however my camera didn't like the low light conditions so it all got a bit Blair Witch like as someone above said.

Great stuff everyone! No comments really, just gut feeling.
1. harpdude61
2. Isaacullah, liked the "Feel like blowing my horn" entry better but great stuff both.
3. Kingobad

Here's some comments, though, on "worthy mentions" :). WalterTore: Man, you drop those licks so askew it's haunting. Jimmy Reed-like. Love it.
TommyTheHat: Steady improvement all the time. Some stuff sounds great, some is out of place. If you would go over every chorus three four times to shape everything up I think it would have been real nice.

Great job by all. Really hard to pick 3, but based on my totally subjective standard of wow I'd really like to sound like that--

1. Kyzer Soza
2. Jodanchudan
3. Clamsharpplayer

I could have picked 3 different players based on other standards, but the way these guys sound was the reason I started to play the harp.

Can't really be sure about any relationship harpdude, but not to my knowing... I think your entry really embodied the "Blow your brains out". It took hold and pulled me along, all over the harp and out of Kansas. Nothing contrived or controlled even, but a lot of feeling!

Hey! I just checked back in on this thread to see how things were going... Thanks Bronzewailer, Ant, Ryan, and pistolcat! I appreciate it! Also, I'd like to extend my honorable mention section (really, it could go on forever!) to include Harpdude61 and KingoBad. Two other really strong entries!

So, how close are we to announcing the winners?

1. Jodanchudan (Sore Eyes) (I)
2. Bronzewailer (Shirk in Progress) (B)
3. Mewin' Cat (N)

With lots of other great efforts. By the time I got it down to my top 7 or 8 it was getting painful to cut anything. Great job everyone.
