I remember my boy lollipop like it was yesterday, what about the Romantics 'what i like about you'...(cant work out the yt upload thing)...Lollipop's a good riff to mess about with, Bb harp sounds ok to me. The other one is Dean Martins 'Little old wine drinker me'

I suspect some of the songs my band plays could be considered alt pop. Cindy Lauper isn't really pop anymore but she has some great harp in her new stuff. Joan Osborne has harp in some of her music and some of her stuff is poppy. I'm going to show some restraint though. It's 3 AM and I'm not going to go digging for videos right now. There is some harp in at least one Shakira video. One of the local bands plays some Dylanesque harps, and some of their stuff might be considered quirky pop. Beatles...
A few 80s pop tracks/bands off the top of my head:
Karma Chameleon - Culture Club Suicide Blonde - INXS (a Charlie Musselwhite sample I think) Big Pig (another 80s Aussie band that featured a harp player) Quite a few Madness tracks. Ditto Eurythmics. Adam Ant played harp on the b-side track "B-Side Baby" that was one of the first times I heard harmonica. UK Subs featured a fair bit of harp too, but we've definitely strayed into punk territory there

Lets not forget the opening harp in Billy Joels Piano Man from the 70,s.I think that was the first tune that I learned on the harp in the first band I played with in high school,BTW we were called Loaded Nostril; The Boogie Band.My second tune although not really a pop tune was Goin To N.Y. covered by The Climax Blues Band,FM Live a great album at that time.
BTW this thread has reminded me of one of my pet hates - synth harmonica: where the artist/producer has obviously wanted the sound of the harp, but tried to emulate on the keys. It never sounds right. Just hire a harp player!
Tons of pop songs by Huey Lewis and the News. I classify John Mellencamp as something of a pop artist too, and he uses that midwestern-sounding harp on a lot of his songs. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
