Just got my amp stand for my harp rig.
It's made by Atlas Stands out of Butternut.
Nice tilting going on and the wood is suprisingly light.

It also has a guitar stand built in!

@hvyj, This is a pic of my main setup..It's actually the largest rig i would use. I have smaller rigs for club/bar gigs. With that being said, i believe in the best weapon for the job and i would not sacrifice tone for a little extra set up time.

i definitely like the guitar stand that folds out of the base.
now maybe if it had a handle and some wheels so you can double its function as a cart for gear....

the site made it look like these started at $350.
how much was yours,jb?

In defense of the two weeks it took me to build this stand, I think $350 is a pretty good deal. LOL

JB has one of the absolute best amp stands in the world, the earth, and universe. Not for everyone, but second to none regardless of the haters:)

My first post, just feeling obligated to chime in because eharp has never even been in the same room with one of my stands. JB, enjoy your "custom" stand, it was an honor to build it for you:)

Nice stand! I just use a K&M guitar stand. Alot less frills, but a lot lighter and more compact. I've got my gear down to the point where I can carry it with 2 hands.

for $350- i dont think i can afford to be in the same room as one of your stands!

just so i get your point, atlas stands man- my saying it looks over engineered and thinking $350 for an amp stand makes me a hater??

Yeah, you're right, i probably over estimated your disapproval. To each their own. enjoy the milk crate:) LOL

Qoute "for $350- i dont think i can afford to be in the same room as one of your stands!" This may be at the heart of the misunderstanding. If you were to ever be in the same room you'd likely change your mind.

To be specific, you didn't say "for an amp stand" BTW...You said "for this" which points a finger straight at my craftsmanship. I don't take offense, but you could be a bit more respectful, especially when someone is excited to have something they want, regardless of your disapproval.

Oh well, no sweat, no worries, JB is happy and that's all that matters. Additionally, he owns the best harp stand in the world. Period.

Done with the bickering, just check out my work if you have any questions, it speaks for itself.

if you needed to mic that amp, you could keep a desk stand(unassembled of course) a cable and a mic in the drawer.
sennheiser makes a good one for that purpose- model 609 i believe.

EDIT: oh, that's not a drawer..DUH!..
well if you had a drawer.....

Nice, very nice stand. Good design, excellent craftsmanship, nice touch with the leather strap. Thanks for posting. I can see why JBharmonica is wanting us to see it. Is that oak for the most part and walnut on the accent?

Its Butternut (White walnut) with Black walnut accents to resist the 90 degree cradle from expanding over the years. Butternut is super light weight and easy to dent, so the walnut was included out of necessity as well as aesthetics. The whole stand weighs about 16 pounds. Light as balsa wood, but super strong:)

Butternut is becoming a rarity these days as it slowly dies out, canker disease is killing them off. This particular butternut came from my back woods where we felled it thinking it was oak, intended for fire wood, but when we cut it we could smell the walnut odor, so we sent it to the mill instead.

The leather strap doubles as a guitar strap if needed:)

Thanks for the compliments y'all.

Fantastic design and build quality. Its more like a bespoke piece of furniture.
Its not something I would buy unless I had an amp on display in my living room.

The price is right. Try buying a handmade table or chair!

Holy cow!!! mine's just a ten buck lapel mic mic banded onto a stick, then using Audacity i adjust the quality to somewhat an acceptable level, no point in buying all the good gear if you cant get the right tone etc, etc, etc, SBW and others didn't have the access to this stuff, so they did it right from the start, but it all looks oh so sweet!!!

Actually what i mean is some of us use an old car to get from A to B, sometimes its good to use a Mercedes, BMW, Hot rod, Old convertable, Ferrari, Kenworth truck (cab over kenny with a reefer on), however this is really a nice piece of harp gear that would land me in the doghouse sooner than later.

Agreed, A-B is bottom line. A being the amp rig, and B being ones ears. The big difference I'm drawn to in the analogy is that I prefer the Ferrari tone over the Kenworth:) Yes, I'm a tone snob, a graduate of the 3rd best recording industry college in the nation, highly involved in the physics of sound and always critical listening. My goal in this life is to help make music sound the best it can for everyone, and speaker dispersion is a HUGE part of tone. I don't mix down albums with the speakers pointed at my shins, I sit in front of the monitors with them pointed at my ears, listening to the source, not the reflection.

Yes USA dollars, don't be that way. For some of my stands that price barely covers the cost of the lumber, throw two weeks of work in there and it's a fantastic price for some of my less exotic work. These types of amp stands don't just mill themselves down at the sawmill and snap themselves together on the way to the post office. Simple solution for you thinking it's too expensive...hmmm...just don't buy one or act all put off by a Ferrari amp stand, and know this, unless you've tested one out, picked one up, and seen one up close, in person, you don't know what your talking about. My stands sound absolutely incredible, far better than the ones that are not made of hardwood. That, and the attention to detail I give them, not to mention they are all CUSTOM, meaning you're judging the ideas of someone else whom I am helping to attain what they desire, not mine, is why they are the absolute best amp stands in the world. I build what others want, so if it's too rich for your blood maybe you should take it up with the people who own and love and swear by the stands they asked me to build. I've been building them for well over a year now and I STILL HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ONE SINGLE COMPLAINT from any of the owners I've supplied. THAT is what matters here, not sarcastic tongue in cheek jabs and complaints from cheapos who judge fine woodworking and a craft they haven't even tried. And don't say you've tried one, because I am very involved with my customer base because i worked side by side with them to get them the exact amp stands they wanted. Yes, USA dollars...LMFAO...I'll still go to my wood shop in the morning doing what I love, for a living, making people happy with the best amp stands in the world, MADE IN THE USA, while you do what you do to beat down your fellow American man or concentrate on the competition with the Jones next door who just bought a new car, possibly even consequently lining the pockets of someone in Japan with USA dollars.

Here's a link to some of my past work, every one is different, and every one had a different dollar amount... Yes, USA dollars.

I am proud of what I do, and proud to be an American with the balls to do work like this and take an entrepreneurial risk, God Bless the USA

There's a market for anything. Those aren't just stands, they're works of fine crafstmanship. Sure, not for everyone-but there are folks who will find these stands to be exactly what they are looking for.

Not everyone is in a financial rut right now, either.

c'mon, josh. your standard reaction to people that are surprised that your stands start at $350 is waaay over the top.
face it- most people have never seen a stand cost that much.
and i totally understand that if it takes you 80 hours to build one, then your hourly rate is about $4 an hour. starvation wages, for sure.
you gotta be less defensive and let us "tight arses"(?) express their shock and just let it be.
tell you what- what is the cost of shipping to oz? maybe i'll cover the shipping, rubes. you got $350?

That is beautiful stuff. I'll say it here for the naysayers. But, I'll get with you via your site to work out the procurement details.

I need one of those for the amp I bought from Musselwhite (thanks again, Greg).

I am a sucker for hand-craftsmanship.

From one wood craftsman to another - I simply say beautiful work! Is that curly walnut or curly maple? I'm amazed you can have is stained so dark (unless it is walnut which is about that color) and then get such bright colored highlights with the lighter stain. Very cool technique.

And yes - some people pay for art and quality.

Thanks Greg, it's curly maple, I used luthiers mercantile brown analine dye on it to get it to look black like that. Funny how their "brown" dye is more of a soot color... Then i sanded it all off as best I could and went over it with a light brown dye I use a lot on leather. gave it that burnt orange color. Since then I have re-sanded it and the final coat is a Rit "cocoa brown" dye. Now all it needs is a quick re-sand, seal, assembly, and polish. Should be amazingly deep and change colors depending on the light and angle to match the amp pictured.

Photobucket

It looks chalky right now, but once I get it sealed it's gonna really be deep and translucent. The dark spots are where it is still wet from the dying process, it will all even out as it dries completely. This is the same way many guitar makers do their quilted or flamed tops. It really is a process, labor intensive, but the results are amazing.

It looks really nice. I've had occasion to go into woodworking shops lately (on someone else's dime) and the price seems fair. I can't afford one, but we've all got different price ranges we can afford. Sometimes I have to check my bank balance to buy a Big Mac. I do appreciate quality when I see it though. :) Very nice.
