I like the Deluxe personally, but mainly because you can more easily work on them since they're put together with screws. However, I'm a Golden Melody player.

Hi rockem, You wrote: "I want to try what this the sound of the marine band everyone is talking about." I think your own statement answers your question.
In my opinion, if you want to find out about this sound everyone is talking about then you should go right to the source. A Marine Band! Anything else would only be "like" a Marine Band.

My favorite OOB harp is the Suzuki Hammond. I don't like MBs, but if I were going to try one, I'd get the Deluxe because it does not suffer from the crappy construction issues which plague the original MBs.

Does the MBD has a different sound than the MB ? From what I understand the MBD is like a somewhat customized MB, isn't it ?

The crossover and the Deluxe differ mainly in how the tuning is tempered. The construction is the same, unless you feel that pearwood comb of the Deluxe will sound different from the bamboo comb of the Crossover.
The Marine Band is fine-tuned very similarly to the Deluxe and uses the same comb material but the comb is unsealed (and can expand and warp with moisture) and it's held together with nails.

It depends on which of the harps you have now you like best. I think the Bluesmaster is Equal Tuned and the others are some flavor of Just Tuning. Marine Band is Just Tuned. Golden Melodies, Lee Oskars and most Suzukis (except the Manji) are Equal Tuned. Seydel also makes some really nice harps.
Then there is the question of key... you've got harps in the low to middle part of the normal harp range. Again, it comes down to what you like so far, but even although it can be useful to compare harps in the same key I'd branch out a bit. I particularly like D and Bb myself.

Marine Band combs are now sealed also. But they are held together with nails, which is pretty shitty if you ask me. I wouldn't waste my money on a regular Marine Band when you can get a Deluxe or Crossover.

Depending on what you play, or who you play with...your A harp could get the most play time out of all your harps. If it's a MB you're wanting, might I suggest one of the Turboharp models? They make Turbo MB's and Turbo Crossovers. I myself have a Turbo SP20 in A. It's lasted longer than any other 20 I've ever had. The sound is great, and it helps eliminate the risk of you grabbing the harp upside down and blowing the wrong note. ----------
