What harp technique / riff / song / situation do you tend to fumble or drop the ball on most?

4´ 4d 4´ 3d 2d is a riff I like, but it's killing me to get it just right every time. Compare the way Adam does it in Front Porch Blues (at 1:53 min)

with the way Ben Bouman does it:

I sometime have trouble with quick tongue switches. Also, I like playing lower tuned harps and when I switch to something higher like a "D" harp, it will take me a little while to be able to tongue block bend easily. ----------

If I don't practice playing octaves often I will sometimes fumble going from a 2-hole tongue block blow octave to a 3-hole tongue block draw octave.
Yeah. How did you do that, Grey Owl? That's great.

The biggest problem area for me is dropping the 10 blow bend a whole step at fast tempo where I have to hit it dead on pitch and then move to the next note. I have trouble hitting that whole step bend dead on with consistent accuracy.
Surprisingly, this is no harder or easier for me using high key or low key harps. They all present the same challenge as far as I am concerned. Obviously it ain't the hardware--I need to refine my technique.

@DanP: The 2 blow octave is a 4 note spread and the 3 draw octave is a 5 note spread. You can block 2 notes with the tip of your tongue on the 2B octave and then curl the tip down as you move one hole up and block 3 holes with the front top part of your tongue which is fatter than the tip. This works pretty well to hit these octaves cleanly at fast tempo. Just a suggestion, FWIW.

My cousin is always bombarding me with these type of e mails. This one was quite clever I thought.

@hvyi Thanks for the tip. I don't have any problems with the blow octaves or tongue blocking 3 holes on the left to get single notes because in both those instances my mouth is over 4 holes which is what I'm used to and that mouth position is comfortable for me. What gives me problems is stretching my mouth wide enough to be over 5 holes. For example I'm using a C harp and I'm playing an E blow octave my mouth will be over the 5,6,7, and 8 holes and I'm blocking the G and C notes on 6 and 7 holes. Then I'll go from that to a D draw octave and try to stretch my mouth further to be over the 4,5,6,7 and 8 holes I sometimes don't open wide enough to get a clear octave note on the left so in this case the D octave note, the 4 draw would sound weak instead of clear and rich. I guess the gist of my problem would be going from a 4 hole mouth opening to a 5 hole mouth opening quickly and accuratly when the situation calls for it.

Tongue switching for me is tough. Wish I could do it faster. Sometimes I can do it, but it's hit and miss.
