I don't normally listen to blues when I workout. For training I prefer rock. It drives me more. The closest to blues I come to when training is blues based rock like Eric Clapton. But stuff like AC/DC "Who Made Who" will drive me into a puddle of sweat! ---------- Tommy

Work out? Have you seen pictures of me?
I did take a 1 1/2 mile walk yesterday. I'm hoping to take 10 lbs. off before the odometer hits 40 (and hopefully keep going after that.) When I walk I kind of like quite contemplation. I haven't found any music I particularly like for my little step machine.

My only workout comes from doing occaisional menial labor at work, and yard and house work at home. I usually listen to classic rock...The Who, AC/DC, CCR, Zeppelin...things like that. Blues I usually listen to in the car so I can play along with it. My 16 month old son likes it too. :-) ----------

My main workout, besides walk to/from my car every day at work, is 12 ounce curls. Just last night, I was doing high reps. I'm gonna be so tone-one day. Hell, my 6-pack already resembles a keg.
Oh, these exercises were conducted at an amazingly fun blues jam here in New Olreans last night, where Johnny Sansone decided to show up. ---------- Todd L. Greene

eharp, actually, the last time I did the contemplative walks thing regularly I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months. Then my heel spurs got flared up and I had to stop. I have a step machine too, which is a little easier on my spurs. I've found when I push myself to hard I end up with serious injuries and asthma problems, but if I can make myself walk 5 miles a week I lose weight pretty steadily. As long as the stupid heel spurs don't get too bad I can do that long term. (I've got better sneakers now.)

nac,
Two words - stationary bike (or if you like the outdoors too much - bike bike).
Worked wonders for me (lost 40 lbs over a six month period).
No pounding to the joints or feet, and with a stationary bike you can read WHILE you exercise (or listen to music).
Though a competitive athlete for many years, i've always hated running for running's sake (kind of kudzu's polar opposite i guess). Discovered the joys of reading WHILE riding the bike. Went from 245 to 205 in six months (lighter than I was when competing). The key was that the reading made the time on the bike fly by, and I actually started to look forward to it. I'd like to say I learned a lot too, but the only caveat was that I couldn't read anything too deep, or the RPM's I produced wouldn't be high enough to play an LP. Mostly periodicals (music, business). No Tolstoy.
If a Gym membership is too $$$$, you could always find deals on a bike on craigslist i would imagine.

I don't have room for a stationary bike. I do have a regular bike that I ride sometimes. It's one of those out of site out of mind things though. I have to keep it in the closet. I've asked my apartment complex to install a bike rack. They said they would. Then they just didn't.

Ok, we have quite a few posts in this thread and all relate to the original posters' question. However I am still trying to figure out the third response here.
