I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day. There have been a number of notable guitar/harp duos over the years. But who are some good piano/harp duos? I've heard a couple numbers done between Rob Paparozzi and Howard Levy where Levy was on the ivories.
I've seen a few performances posted here. They've got a guitar in this one. (I like it!)
I know a lot of the blues bands had piano. They tended to use honky-tonk sounding pianos though. I don't like the sound of honky-tonk piano. It's too plinky for me.
Herbineaux and Penn was a great harp/piano pairing out of the University of Arizona(I am pretty sure that's the University)...The same harp player, Pierre Herbineaux, was on one of those talent shows recently.
EDIT:check this out.

I've been toying with the idea of starting one here in my town. Somehow it just seems a little more novel and ecclectic than a guitar/harp duo. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
Better yet, try the link above for some samples. The previous link only brought up Trio Candido stuff.
I've toyed with the same thing. There's a badass piano player who moved down here a few years ago, Big Joe Kennedy, and he and I have played in a group of hired guns together. We hit it off right away, and hopefully our schedules will align and we can make a duo happen.
Good luck-I think it's a great sound combo, whereas most duos consist of harp and guitar. ---------- Todd L. Greene
Okay, not yet but we're bouncing around the idea of doing a jam, him on keys, me singing & harp. Very different from what Im used to but should be fun :) .
Does it count as piano harp combo if the guy on keys is doing drums or bass on the left hand side, heh.

I have played with Curley Bridges for years. I like the idea of the piano because you have the bass and usually some type of drum machine (I know, that can be good or bad) ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!
here is one for you. A short snipet of my amplified on the rack harp rig and my 1 man band with piano. This one is more wild than what I normally do with the piano and harp. Walter

Patrick Hazell does killer piano/harp solo numbers. Yeah, he uses a Dylan-stand, but he gets some really cool licks going on even so. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
Here's one I've posted before. Me on harp with my piano playing musical partner. It's essentially piano and harp. The harp is at the beginning and middle, with some noodling at the end.
I did piano/harp stuff with my best friend for over 40 years, until he passed away this year. He played piano and guitar, and I played harp and piano, so we also did harp/guitar and piano/guitar blues. It was all great fun; like any duo, it provided some freedom, and some limitations. I think there's some old Otis Spann & James Cotton stuff out there too. Does anybody else know anything about that?
With apologies for the blatant thread bump and self promotion..
A recent video from my piano & harp (+ foot percussion) duo. Great fun to play in and requires different thinking and approaches from working with bands / guitar duos.
