I heard a rumor on facebook that Yamaha may start producing harps again after not making any since their early days in business. Anyone else heard anything about this?

Haven't heard that but I would love it if that were true.

I know right? Pretty much everything else they make music and sound wise is great. Why not harps?

My Kanji reading isn't too hot(in fact, it's ice cold, which is the way I prefer unfiltered sake), but I think you're right, they look like tremelo harps, and I did see a chrom in there, too.

I have a really old beat up Yamaha diatonic. It has a red wooden comb and just about plays but they must have made them some time ago. It looks a lttle like an old pre-MS blues harp.

Hmm......

Is it Yamaha who've bought up Harrison, I wonder?

I love Yamaha. I've got two acoustics or theirs and two Pacificas. I love their consistency and QC.

Their guitars are bullet-proof and have very good manufacturing consistency, but I had one of there old harps which I bought form evilbay a while back, in immaculate condition, and to be honest it was rubbish.
Wheezy, no tone, and I couldnt wait to get rid of it as it just depressed me so much trying to get even a decent whimper out of it.

Harrison has been bought by an American company.

There is a false rumour going round that Harrison has been bought by a Japanese company; I wonder if that is at the heart of these rumours about Yamaha.

@Stevelegh

Now THAT might be a match made in heaven. You know, I heard mixed things about the B-Radical. Jay Gaunt, Brandon Bailey, and Howard Levy all endorsed it. Talking to Ricci though, he had nothing but contempt for it. But maybe if Yamaha got their hands on it...

Maybe it wasn'y Levy. There was another heavy hitter that DID endorse it though in an interview I read. I thought it was Levy. Maybe it wasn't

It may have been Levy.

I think I should have phrased that better - just meant I didn't know that - no sarcasm intended! :-)

It does surprise me a little though.

I remember playing a Yamaha diatonic back in the mid 70's and they were absolutely crappy harps, only slightly better than a Hohner from the 80's (part of Hohner's worst quality period). They werre dead in the water in the US by 1978. Yamaha is fine for budget acoustic guitars but their harps weren't very good.

I can believe something from back in the 70's might be substandard. It took til the mid-90's for Yamaha to really start producing reputable quality instruments outside of the guitar department. But I bet now that they have better resources in the area, they'd be able to produce something quality harp-wise.

I disagree Hawkeye, I remember various flautist friends of mine playing Yamahas in the Seventies, and they were excellent instruments, as, I guess, were the saxophones and trumpets. Harmonicas are a totally different market, though.

I didn't mean to say they were'nt making good stuff back then Andrew. I just meant it took til the mid-90's for their work to become really reputable.
