If I observe a person repeatedly intimidating and/or assaulting other people, would I be considered to be launching a personal attack on that person by reporting on a forum what I've seen?

If the answer is no, then would "That person repeatedly intimidates and/or assaults other people" be a ligitimate way of stating my observations?

If the answer is yes, would "That person is a bully" also be a ligitimate way of stating my observations"

If the answer is no, why the heck not??!!

BTW:
Here is a good definition of the word Flakey (or Flaky)

When you see a post that has caused a stir, always check to see if it's been edited. We all hit enter a little quickly sometimes and edit lets us reword what we say to more accurately say what we are trying to express.

And of course in the world of forums threads can cross and recross. If you look at how infrequently threads get locked in the service of our little peacekeeping operation here I think we do a pretty good job.

I think I'm going to start a fashion outlet called Locked Topics- we'll reprint the texts of all the great locked topics of all times bit we'll edit out key words to create something like this:

i think i'd let a moderator know what i was seeing/reading and let that mod take appropriate action.

If I belonged to a boxing forum, and Joe Frazier was having an argument with Mike Tyson and Joe Bugner was the moderator, I'd be inclined to assume they knew what they were doing and STFU.

Gene-If you think there is a legitimate problem with someone, email a moderator. I'm one of them. We will all collectively look into it and discuss it with Adam. My email address is in my profile;just click on my user name.

OK so I wake up with a bit of a squash on, because I was out last night listening to live music, playing some live music, a little...and imbibing a little...ok a lot.

Grab some coffee, go online and blurily read the headline news, and then come to MBH. First words I read are gene's question:

If a tree falls in the woods...wait if i observe a tree falling in the woods, and the answer is no, then would I...if the answer is yes, then can I, wait.....

HEY! AM I BACK IN COLLEGE AGAIN????

I'm not hinting that there is a problem. I'm hinting that there was NOT a problem in the thread that got locked. (The word "Flakey", etc. has since been edited out.) Maybe there's more that I missed that was also deleted, and maybe my assumption is wrong. My assumption is that the thread was locked because Jason called Brad Harrison "flakey." (Am I wrong?) To me that does not constitute a personal attack. It is an observation that has been verified by everybody on the thread. Everybody else described it; Jason accurately put a word to it.

BTW:
This ain't no big deal to me. I just feel I've witnessed what I consider to be a minor mistake on the part of those who decided to lock the thread.

Gene, yeah, there was more to it, but it got edited. Like I said, sometimes people hit enter and then reread what they wrote and decide that what they said could be taken a couple of ways and fix it. By that time threads can be locked.

For what it's worth, there have also already been a ton of Harrison threads. They all go the same way- great harp, way behind schedule on deliveries. Half the people want them to fail, a couple more remind everyone what they are trying to do, someone compares them to a custom harp for wait time, someone offers to sell their place in line and a couple people want their money back because they've been waiting so long.

I really hope they get things sorted out. For the record, like Todd said, you can always contact moderators off forum. I'm at hotmail with the same handle I have here, or you can use my Facebook link.

In fact, I saved a copy of the original posting because I was surprised at it, and I was hoping it wouldn't attract accusations of libel/slander, but I'm not going to use it or show it to anyone. In fact, there was very little extra in the original version, and people are just imagining worse than was actually there.

The thread got locked because its general flavour was one of bitterness and accusation and it was only likely to get worse, and, as Nac says, it was only one of a series of Harrison threads, so I think it was correctly locked.
