I'm coming back up to Toronto the week of June 6th. Any interest in having another meetup of the Southern Ontario contingent of MBH again? Last time it was X-harp, Jawbone, and myself, but hopefully we can get Oda to show this time too! Any other folks in the Toronto vicinity? We can meet up at Clintons again down on Queen street, or perhaps better yet, we could meet up at the Silver Dollar room (especially if there's a good band going to be in town!). I'd like to have another one of those spontaneous street jams again too!

Can't have a spontaneous jam unless we're all in the same place! Can't get us all in the same place unless we plan it! It's a serious Catch 22!
@Jawbone: No, I don't think it's safe. But I think we should do it anyway! :) ----------

I've checked the local blues listings, and there are two shows going on during my visit. Here's the info on both of them:
7-Jun. The Rex Hotel. Doctor Nick. Blues Jam. 194 Queen St. West. 416-598-2475
8-Jun. Grossman's Tavern. Ernest Lee & Cotton Traffic. Rockin' Blues Jam. 9pm start. 379 Spadina Ave. 416-977-7000
My inclination is for the Weds. show at the Grossman Tavern. Sound good? ----------

Grossman's Tavern is about a block south of the Silver Dollar room on the south east corner of Spadina and Cecil. You can't miss it, because this is what is painted on it's side wall:

Needless to say, it's a neat place!
So, it sounds like a plan then! See all y'all there!

I sure would not discourage any one from going to see Carlos!!!! After I hear him play I think I should throw my harps in the trash.
Hey X harp, I should brush up on my harping as well. I finally wrapped up the Band a few weeks ago - I simply lost interest - can't get my mojo back - It's been about a year now - maybe this will spark it!!! ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!

Sweet, seems like it's gonna be a bigger group of us than last time! Awesome!
Yeah, seeing Carlos would have been great, but unfortunately, my schedule doesn't let me stay in TO that long.
They have food. Burgers and fries kind of stuff if I remember correctly. I was thinking of getting there a bit early myself, just so it would be possible to chat a bit before the band started... Maybe 8 or 8:30? What do people think? The place I'm staying is just a couple blocks away, so I can be there whenever...
Oh yeah, everyone bring your harps! We are definitely gonna have to play out on the street again. If X-harp is going to have his trunk amp in play again, then maybe also bring your favorite mic(s) and we can try them all out...

The Trunk Junk is a must. Just got to figure out....the Guild Acoustic or the Strat along with my harps? hmmmm. so confused.....
Jawbone, If it works out like me you'll be damn glad you did it. You are now free to do your own thing. Draw inspiration from others. There are a lot of solo acts out there. Check out Walter Tore.... He's got it going on for sure.
I'm working in Don Mills now so I'll be there for dinner about 8:00 ish. ---------- "Keep it in your mouth" - XHarp

I too have to back out -- I had to make a commitment for that night, and, on top of that, am completely broke.
Maybe next time.
There is, however, a solid chance that I'll manage to scrounge up the cash for Carlos Del Junco. Again, not definite.

Ooh man, how did I miss this? I live and play in toronto and would have definitely been there.
I know you got together last Saturday but just putting this out there...
Sat June 18th 3:30 p.m. the Rex Hotel 194 Queen St.W. with Shawn Kellerman and Alec Fraser. Anyone want to join me?
I am sure I don't have to tell you folks who Jerome is but he and Shawn Kellerman put on one of the best shows I have seen in a long time the last time they were both in town.
If not is anyone up for another planned get together? We could meet, grab some cheap grub, and maybe descend on another open mic jam or just go to hear some great tunes?
Hope maybe some of you can make it.
If not I'll try again maybe late July, would be cool to have a Canadian chapter get some momentum.

Yeah, me and Jawbone had a great old time! The band was really good and Derrick (the bandleader) could really sing and man could play that guitar! Yeah, they were a bit too loud for the space (couldn't hear ourselves on stage), but Jawbone and I took turns standing in on harp. That was my first time playing on a stage with a band, and I hope I didn't embarrass myself too badly!!! Jawbone sounded great up there, and it was really nice to have him there for support when I got called up! I had a case of the nerves for sure! It was a real blast though, and I'd definitely do that again next time I come through town!
(PS. I meant to post about this sooner, but I've been swamped since I got back!) ----------

Hey to Toronto Harp players, I've put this out there before but noone took me up on it, If you want to get together let me know your available dates, how far you'll travel to do it and we'll try to set something up.
Isaacullah, getting up with a band and getting your chops on for the first time and it being in Canada ? FANTASTIC !!! As for being too loud, you couldn't hear your self because as a guest you don't typically have the advantage of the monitors. Playing or fronting your own band??? You got to get doing it man, there's no rush like it. Especially with your chops, you'd get a great response from the audience. Get at it man !!!!
