Here is the first video that Todd Promised you. Yuko is from Japan, and just moved to New Orleans. Tell me what you think. Wait until you see Todd's response, which I will post when I get it uploaded. It is a riot, and Todd is in serious trouble. Of course he might not let it stay up here since he is a moderator.

Here's Yuko. The noise is the Air Conditioner blowing on the camers, but It goes away for some reason.

Sounds great to me - plenty of feeling in the singing and playing.

Very funny, as well as very good; I wonder if it was worth it!

I think Todd did the right thing. I was thinking along the same lines as him.

Haha, geez, what a hot mess. I got the shortest straw with a young, not-so-hot guitar player and an older not-so-hot guitar player at this jam. I called out a I-VI-II-V in C, and got a minor blues in A...go figure. That's why I was scrambling a bit in the beginning. So I went with it and made something up on the spot. And, no, I'm happily married to a crazy Cajun woman.

After hearing the first verse I kept my eye on the doorway thinking Mrs Todd was gonna come running in with a shotgun.

Excellent lyrics though. Very cool.

Thanks Steve...total improv, as I intended to do a jazzy instrumental initially, but had to roll with what the guitarist on the right started. I also played Messin With The Kid and Walkin' By Myself that night, but nooooooo....Harvey posts this one.

In all seriousness, I'm sure Yuko was very flattered and Mrs Todd would have appreciated the quality of the improv.

Those jam nights in New Orleans look like a lot of fun.

I need to find a jam night near me. Seems that all that's around is 'open mike' where you show up with a rehearsed band. If anyone near Portsmouth UK knows of anything, give me a shout.

I really like that song Todd and your rendition of it plus the call and response between the harp and sax. I am not familiar with the lyrics, Todd are you making those up on the spot (what a poet if you are) or is this a song someone has done before. Doesn't seem like the same lyrics from the Beat Crusaders - Japanese Girl.

145nE, this is no rendition of anything else-I totally made this up on the spot. No premeditation, just improvisation. The sax guy was fun to trade licks with!

OK Todd I don't really know you (hope to meet you at HCH) but if you are not writing lyrics then you need to think twice about why not. It is an incredible talent to be able to come up with something that good on the spot. My writer friends in Nashville would be jealous.

Thanks, 145, and yes, I will be at HCH. I can't sit down and pen lyrics-I've never been able to come up with anything that doesn't sound trite or completely nonsensical. For some reason, though, I can improv lyrics on the fly like this and land on my feet a good 75% of the time.
