I am looking for a harp tuned to 7LJI at 442 or 443. Are there any stock recommendations?

Hering vintage 1923 is your only cheap stock option. Seydel can tune any of their range for an additional fee. Suzuki do a JI Fabulous, but it's In the same price range as a custom.

If you have some old harps, learning to tune them yourself would be the easiest thing to do.

If you get a Seydel 1847, the only reeds that need to be retuned are 5 & 9 draw and tune it down 27 cents flat and the harp will be in 7LJI. The comprimise tuning they use is actually damned near 19LJI and the only difference between their comprimise and 19LJI is that Seydel tunes those two notes 2 cents flat wheras 19LJI, they're tuned 1.5 cents sharp.
I wouldn't recommend spending money on the Fabulous in 7LJI because you can get a custom harp tuned that way for less money (and from the Filiko guild, a custom MB tuned in that setting is $180, and it's gonna be a much better instrument). ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I'd like to mention with the 1847's there may be some special issues with tuning. Stainless steel doesn't normally rust, but it can if it's not treated right. The local jewelry shop had a stainless decorative fountain, and the artist who made it for them didn't know what he was doing. He used a grinder on it, with left particles of other materials on it, which could rust, and the rust spread. I'd recommend reading up on how to handle stainless before doing too much with their reeds.

Thanks for the replies.
As far as tuning my own, I would like to but Time is Not on MY Side.
As far as SS, you need to use a non-metal bearing sand paper and just to be sure, repassivate with Barkeepers Friend.
BTW - some of these spam prevention characters are TOUGH to read!

I can remember playing harps that were 7 limit JI and I always thought the tuning was flat! the 5 and 9 draw just sound soo wrong! I do a tuning that puts them at 14 cents low. To me thats where it should be! Thats how I tune all my Marine Bands.
