I just got a lightly used Suzuki Firebreath, which caused my tongue and lips to react after just 30 seconds of playing, so much for the comb being sealed, lol.
So now I am curious how many other folks out there have had reactions to wood comb harps? Typically this is mostly likely to happen with woods in the Rosewood and related species, but I'd be interested to hear of any allergic reactions, wood or otherwise, and what the reaction was. For me it was a burning tongue and lips. Fun. (Insert jokes)

I've always been sensitive to smells. I have problems with a lot of paints and sealers. They give me headaches. I haven't had a skin reaction from a harp though.
I know nickel allergies are fairly common and some harps have nickel in their covers. There are a few threads about it in the back threads somewhere.

Did you clean it!... just kidding! Maybe it is sealed and you reacted to the finish?

Rosewood is a hardwood so strictly speaking doesn't need 'sealing'. More likely it's been oiled and polished as you would the fretboard on a guitar.
You might be able to replace the comb as it seems Suzuki parts are pretty interchangeable. (Disclaimer - check first, I have no idea whether this is possible)
You could try using a polyurethane varnish spray to coat the front edge protecting your lips from the wood.

I was thinking of making some hardwood combs for myself - I found this link very useful

Personally speaking never had allergy to anything in a harmonica.

AFAIK, rosewood is poisonous.
And allergic people are VERY sensitive to rosewood. ----------

I always thought rosewood was a bad choice because a lot of people have allergic reactions to it, and that also includes guitar players because that's also a wood also used on the fretboards of some guitars.
Some hardwoods can actually be too hard and wind up being very brittle in many ways. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
