The younguns are really running with this harp box thing. I think even you curmudgeons out there who don't like harpboxing are going to dig what this kid is doing. I just found it on a random YouTube search:
Here's his other vid. He's only got two up, and there is definitely some repetition, but that's cool with me because what he's repeatin' is quite good!
Cool post. Harpboxing seems like a whole extra layer, on top of playing the harp, that needs mastering, but he does it incredibly well. Really solid groove.
"I think even you curmudgeons out there who don't like harpboxing are going to dig what this kid is doing. " Not really. I mean, the guys that do it and play harmonica well (& musically) while doing it I like but the guys that do it and then hold a harmonica in front of them, not so much. I have somebody in mind that might interest you though (and even has a basic instructional video) but he doesn't play harmonica.

Wow, the kid's today play to a great standard, Thanks for posting isaac:o) It kinda depresses me that they pick stuff up so quickly, just reminds me that i'm no longer a young upstart myself that can pick stuff up straight away:o(
It makes me wonder what the kids will be doing in a few years to push the bounderies of harp playing. It is great to see the youth taking such an interest in the harp. ----------
@Ant: "just reminds me that i'm no longer a young upstart myself that can pick stuff up straight away:o("
You and me both brotha! Seriously though, these kids are still in their "Sponge" stage of brain development where they just soak stuff up. Once you hit 25 or so, it's all downhill. At least in terms of cognitive development! I think we are doing damn pretty well for a couple of old 30 somethings!
@Ryan: "the guys that do it and play harmonica well (& musically) while doing it I like" I think this kid fits in this category pretty well, don't you? I know what you are saying, though. Probably 90% of the vids that come up with the YouTube search keywords "Harmonica + Beatbox" are just crap. Even the ones where the person can actually beatbox well, they just do it into the harp and get a wheezy, thin, annoying string of weak blow chords. And if they try to play a single note, forget about it! They pinch the hell out of it. And this goes equally for some of the folks who've gotten famous doing it (rhymes with "puri mane"). Anyway, the point is that this kid is far and away better than that other 90%, and what he does is more than just "listenable", it's pretty good!
Also, "I have somebody in mind that might interest you though (and even has a basic instructional video) but he doesn't play harmonica.", Post it up! I'd love to see it!
