After inspiration from Issac and others, I finally made my own mic with a lab specimen cup (sterile and unused, I promise) for a shell.

He's a short video of it.

Fun. And in case you need to drug test any of the band members, you're fully prepared!

Sounds nice - am getting the itch to make one too...

One thing I notice, though, is a slight metallic sound. I have the same problem (well - I see it as a problem :) with a mini amp (Micro Spide Line 6) and my current mic - a Shure Beta57.

I've been wondering for sometime now where does this metallic overtone come from. Played with nobs on the amp to no avail. Question to the pros: is it the mic ? Is it due to the solid state amp ?

Thanks!

@mikolune - I'll try to make another video and play with that mic and switch to the one other that I have to see if you hear any difference.

@markdc70 - it is a Spikes hat. thousands of miles from central PA, but connected.

One thing that I see is a very loose cup on the mic. If you tighten up your cup, I think this "metallic" tone will disappear and you'll get a much warmer, fatter tone.

@AW: that would actually be interesting.

@markdc70: I thought that this metal sound was really due to some electricity issues, but I will try and compare my standard cupping with a very careful cup. We'll see

Thanks guys!
