Well, I've been working on this CBG thing for a while--Isaac and Hobo have been putting me up to it with these cool CBG guitars--but-- I get a little short of breath when I think of a guitar with like three or fours strings--so I went all anal and went with the standard six. In fact--I've got a plan for an eight and a ten string--but I gotta wait for a while and convince the wife I really need them.

Anyway, here's my video of the guitar. . .

Oldwailer I'm very impressed with that lap steel but I'm even more impressed with your playing. You've got a kick ass swampy blues sound going on there that doesn't sound like it's come from someone who hasn't played one for 40 years.
Will Geordie be able to get the same sort of sound out of his Mountain dulcimer if he uses a steel?

Why don't you forward your video to Jack Daniels...they may give you a few free tins for more guitars? (I'll do it for you if you like) I bet they'd be impressed with this and it compliments the Jack Daniels image.

Good on ya Ray for putting the effort into making this, it sounds just great.

Nice Oldwailer! Great build and nice playing. You can be proud of that one.

You could even do a vintage lunchbox version for the kiddies. Maybe Scooby-Doo in open D?

Thanks for the accolades, everybody.

@Oisen, I don't think a dulcimer is going to work to get a similar sound--but I could sure be wrong--played with a slide, the ready access to that flatted third in motion could certainly sound bluesy. The only dulcimer I ever played (back in the 60's) had pretty slack strings--to be played with a slide, I think you would need a very high action or tune it up an octave to get enough tension to support the steel. Sometimes the dulcimer is played with a stick--but the stick is just used to fret the strings--not as a slide.

My wife has already been after me to forward the video to Jack Daniels, and I'm going to do that. I have already contacted them once to see if they would help me find some more tins--they were very gracious but said they were no longer available. I haven't told them what I want them for yet.

I have looked at the lunchboxes, Kingo--but the idea of a guitar with Spiderman all over it is a little wierd to me--I'll probably wait until somebody commissions that one. . .

Very impressive build and playing! I bet you could build a whole slew of those if everyone sent you in their blue Royal Dansk butter cookie tins.

Yeah, Tod, the cookie tins are easier to come by--but the whiskey tins are just a lot cooler. . .
