What's your point?

I swear, it's like some people have nothing better to do than judge other people who are different from them.

I normally paint a pentagram on my forehead with goats blood before I sacrifice a virgin to my donkey god. Then I jest!

You see rpoe - you would ASSume that I would refer to a monkey god wouldnt you? Actually - My girlfriend tends to call me a Gorilla. Dunno why *picks ass*

Anyway... my point is, when it comes to discussing religion in this forum I will forever be the guy who jumps in and say "LOOK AT THIS SHINY THING!" and make an ASS of myself.... See My Donkey God is more relevant now!

C'mon Ray, you know you can't get virgins on ebay.
You need to go to Craigslist for that.

Guys I noticed a couple of you and the OP are fairly new as posters, so I would just like to gently point out that discussion or criticism of religion (of any kind) is banned as a topic on MBH. This has come about because time and again the forum has exploded with people getting offended and hurt whenever the topic is raised.

I understand that Jason is a major talent, and therefore his beliefs and the things he comments on are of great interest to many including myself; however he is also a member of the forum and therefore should be shown the same level of respect as anyone else here.

Bluzmonk of course I can’t speak for him at all, but I believe Jason has indicated before that in general, he is quite happy to discuss his beliefs rationally with people who are genuinely interested; however MBH is not the place for it.

I know most of you are just having some fun, and I hate to be a wet blanket, but can I ask that you please let this topic go before someone gets offended, and the thread will inevitably have to be locked.

I didn't make a comment on anyone's "religion" (if indeed that's what you want to call this). I made a comment on the content of a web page.
Look...I don't care if someone worships a rat turd or a plate of enchiladas, what anyone does on their own time is their own business. But when I look at a web page to see information about a MUSIC artist, that's what I expect to see. I don't need to see their "religion" promoted on said web page in any way, shape, or form.
If an artist doesn't really give a rip who they offend by promoting said web page in this manner, then I suppose it doesn’t matter. Enough said.

blue dont you think that over such a trivial sort of thing you could sort of just 'choose' not to be offended?

I've got a really radical solution for you bluemozark, don't go on Jason's web page anymore. See how easy that was???

Bluemozark, if you're so easily offended by things like that, blues probably isn't the best choice of music for you. You must be familiar with the story of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil. The blues is full of stuff like that.

"But when I look at a web page to see information about a MUSIC artist, that's what I expect to see. I don't need to see their "religion" promoted on said web page in any way, shape, or form."

Really? So it must really bother you when musician's thank God for their success, his guidance, etc.. I see that type of stuff on A LOT of musicians websites. (that seems to be way more a "promotion" of religion than posting some symbolic imagery) I assume that bothers you just as much right? If not, then clearly it only bothers you when it differs from your personal beliefs.

For some people, religion is very much part of their music experience. For other people it's not important. Religious imagery is all over the place. We always have to walk a tight line on this site between allowing discussion of the music and the themes in the music and keeping clear of passing judgement on religious choices. Jason has videos on this topic where you can discuss his religion.

So here is how I try to parse out this subject. If you want to play a song or ask about a song with religious content, as long as it's got something to do with blues harp, proceed, but be careful and tactful. Decide if it's a question that might enlighten people about the blues or harmonica or culture. If it isn't, don't post it. There are certainly cultural identifiers in all sorts of music. The politics of a crowd is important. The Dixie Chicks may get booed for leaning left and rock bands may get booed for leaning right, and that's an interesting phenomena. We keep a really close eye on threads like that and if people are behaving they can be interesting threads. The problem is, people don't always behave.

Then there are threads like this.

"Ok..I guess he can do whatever he wants... but...a pentagram on his web page?"

In one sentence you bring up religion, pass judgement on it, and decide it doesn't matter enough to be a real topic.

"if indeed that's what you want to call this"

This might be as good an example of a passive aggressive backhanded concession I've ever seen.

Bluemozark, stop digging. You have been warned. I'm going to lock the thread now.
