Hi folks, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. I have a question for those who are a little more enlightened than myself in matters of music theory and the various harp positions... I was jamming with an old friend of mine last night, both of us a fair few drinks worse for wear. My friend was playing guitar in D and, me being drunk, I went the wrong way round the circle of fifths and grabbed an A harp (I can only really play 1st and 2nd positions). Anyway, somehow it worked and I was wondering if anyone knows what, if any, position I ended up playing. As I remember it I was playing both blow and draw notes between holes 4 and 8 although it's all rather quite hazy. Yours, slightly confused, Dan

If it was in D & it worked it would have been 12th pos ie root note 5d on an A harp.

Yeap, like Aussie said, 12th. If you ever wonder what position is what, just count around the Circle. 12 positions, 12 keys (ignoring the duplicate keys).

12th is an awesome position, I recommend you experiment with it more. I've actually kind of started doing everything in 12th lately. Not so much a fan of 2nd anymore. But yeah, root is on the 2 draw full step bend, 5 draw, and the 9 draw.

Hey again! I'll definitely try playing around with it some more, Jon. It was a proper happy accident mind... Tooka's right about the sobriety. In fact I can hardly ever remember anything I improvise straight or twisted. This old goldfish needs to start recording himself.
