First and foremost, I don't want to come across as full of myself...I'm not, but last night I went to a new blues jam for the first time and just plugged in like I belonged. I knew some of the guys from other venues but stepped up on stage with a couple guys I'd never played with before. We played one full set and every tune went down like we had rehearsed, but of course being a jam, that was not the case. I work hard to make my harp playing add to the music, not detract from it, and it's been a work in progress for several years, but I think I've finally arrived, so to speak. My level of playing is there to the point where I feel very confidant sitting in with anyone, I can feel the music, and it's pure joy, just letting what's inside flow. It's hard to describe, but it's for lack of a better term, Magic in The Moment. I've worked hard to get to this point in my harp playing and I feel elated and also know that I cannot stop trying to improve upon where I'm at, as that is what has put me in the moment right now. I live in southeast Massachussetts and I've been motivated by two peticular harp players from this region, those being, firstly, Mr. BarbarqueBob and secondly, Mr. James Montgomery. Both these gentleman have inspired me to reach the level I'm at and without their influence I don't think I'd be as proficiant with my playing as I am. While I'm at it, I should also give a nod to Jerry Portnoy, another influence from this area that has helped me appreciate good harp structure. I'm self taught, but have sent many hours listening to the people that have inspired me.....to all of you, Thanks. you've made a big difference in my progress. Bob, you were the first harp player who really made me see the light....caught you at Bovais Tavern in East Providence long ago and it always stayed in my head and made me work towards excellence. Just sayin'....

Bob, I'm guessing I may be an older old fart than you are, I'll be turning 62 on Feb. 12th. Good news is, I don't look or act my age.

Bob, Are you playing out on a somewhat regular basis these days? Love to catch you live again, it's been years, and I'd love to introduce myself if I had the chance.

I have to agree with tbirdflier about BBQ Bob. The other day I was taking my dog for a long walk so I grabbed my IPOD which is loaded with about 700 blues songs (Most of which have harp on them)when I heard this song with some really great chromatic playing on it. As it was ending I hit replay to hear it again. Now I knew it wasn't George Harmonica smith and I couldn't wait to get home so I could look up on my PC to see who it was playing.(My Ipod plays the music but the visual display is a no go); so I look it up and the song is Chrome Jump by none other than BBQ Bob. Mate what a set of chops you must have, the song goes for 7 min 34 sec. and it seems like you are soloing on about 75% of it. I have tried playing a chrome and I get winded after playing the first verse of Bah Bah Black Sheep. I see that I have 3 of Bobs songs on my I Tunes and I have given them 5 stars each so that they come up more often on the playlist, thanks Bob for opening the door to the listening pleasure of good chromatic playing, regards Neil
