Best is going to be totally subjective. There are a number of ways to make a good overblow harp, and I am sure there are some great builders beyond the obvious. I encourage you to take into consideration what model of harp you generally prefer and what your ideal tones are.
Most customs have a unique feel to them and builders can often enhance certain aspects. I think the worst thing that could happen is having to sacrafice playability in other areas for overblows, that is something I strive to avoid at all costs.
Regarding squealing, I take care of that without adding any foreign materials to the reeds or reed plates. I know Joe Spiers does the same and has stated so publically. Others use things like wax and nail polish. That's just food for thought and not a dis on anyone. I'd also suggest working with someone with a strong background in performance and using overblows in their playing.
This is not the for sale page and not a thread to offer services for sale on. Consider checking out who has public builds available on that page and following some of the links in various signatures of even some of the builders who post here.
There are a lot of options at that price point and it comes down to who you feel comfortable with and who has the options you want at your price. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas Updated 1/23/11

bazzz, you can check the link in my signature for the thread organizer and then click on customizers. A lot of them have websites that describe a bit what they do. There are several who are members here, Mike Fugazi, Deak Harps, Jim, Chris Reynolds, Joe Spiers, Randy Sandoval (Genesis), actually, about half the guys on the list are members. I suggest going to the different sites and looking around.

Bazz I'm pretty sure I remember you saying your a teenager and haven't been playing very long. I can make you a custom harp for the lower end of what you stated. I also recall you are living in Canada. So I would have to add $5 shipping and handling. I build Hohner harps mostly, but also have a soft spot for Lee Oskars. I did a Lee Oskar harp a little while ago and put Hohner Blues Harp covers on it. I was surprised with the outcome. It was a good harp. I tuned it to the way I play (JI tuning). I was sorta hoping commercials and direct solicitation from builders on the forum here would maybe not be encouraged on this thread as it is not the for sale thread and maybe not fair to bazzzou...and a pissing match probably won't help anyone either.
I am obviously not the OP, but am trying to honor Adam's previous request. Also, not all builders make overblow harps. I can't say for sure, but I think pretty much everyone nacoran listed does...Again, I think there are many options at that price point and it is crucial to consider what you want from the whole harp and not just how a couple notes overblow. Then there are the cosmetic differences, lol. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas Updated 1/23/11

My first suggestion was of course to go to Joe Spiers. Seeing as Joe isn't taking any new orders at the moment though I'd suggest giving Mike Fugazzi a try. He is an overblow player and studied with Chris Michalek (Buddha) so he knows how to set up a harp for overblowing.
