On the Mac, you can convert text to speech. Go to system preferences, speech. Tick the "speak the selected text when the key is pressed" Then set the keys. ie. Command + Shift + s The mac will speak any text selected, and yes there is a choice of male of female voice. Rob
i've done some work in TTS (text to speech) applications, and this is pretty typical of where the state of the art was a few years back. doesn't sound bad, but you wouldn't mistake it for a person. like ASR (automated speech recognition), TTS turns out to be a lot harder than you'd think.
