I went out with a friend from work last night to see a band he said had a harp player. He told me I got to check this out. He couldn't shut up about how this guy used effects and just freaked people out he was so good. OK I thought whatever I'll go. I was surprised he was really good at using effects. I'm not into effects myself so I wasn't expecting to like very much. I was wrong! I'm still never going to buy a bunch of pedals (or any at all), but this guy was the BEST harp player I have heard using effects I have live or recorded. Oh yeah he plays the guitar at the same time and operates the pedals with his foot. They are from NYC. If you get a chance go see them. Thier CD's do not do them justice. You gotta see them live if your into the younger hip coolmoodee Blues Traveler type thing. I'm not and I still liked them.

Kind of cool... I guess I could play keyboard with my mouth with the right set up...

That was really cool! He is good. Now in my opinion, that's the kind of harp playing that can appeal to a younger audience and encourage kids to pick up a harp, not Bad News Brown. This guy with Turbine is simply a more creative and precise player in my opinion. He rocks.

This guy is really good with effects, but he makes them sound good because he's a good player too - 3rd position on a G harp - nice.

@shbamac OT opinions
@Todd Yeah I was surprised! I just thought he was average and pretty good with efeects. Then after every song I was thinking he's not bad. Then they would play a song and I was thinking Damn that is cool! The more I paid attention the more I realized he is good and is great with effects. Better than any I'm aware of! I haven't seen non-harp playing people react to harp playing at a show like that in awhile! Like it or not. That is the future of main stream harp. You want to get on big stages and play for real. This is how!

Does anyone know what king of mic/cordless unit he was using?

@Harvey- He's using a Strnad microphone. It's made to clip onto the harmonica and covers the length of the harmonica, which makes good for using with a harmonica played on a rack. He's using the one made for diatonic harps, but they also make them for chromatic harmonicas, both a 12 hole and 16 hole model.

Wow--that's a whole lot better than I expected--I even listened to the whole thing. . .

Yes REM is right. Magic Dick had one years ago. I'm surprised they are still being made. I have not seen one in use or heard of anyone using one for 35 years. Anyone that is does the rack thing would greatly benefit from one of these.

Yeah, Strnaad is still out there--I would like one, but I don't think it would work with my rack. . .
