I've just been re-listening to Deak Harp's album, 'Gateway to the Blues'- which is bloody great - and felt the need to mention it here in case anyone new to the site hasn't heard it. As well as running through a wide range of different blues styles (which I realised, as I lamely tried to play along, makes it a great blues-harp textbook), he's got a lot of cool sound effects going on, including a crazy train chugging sound I can't figure out at all and use of air-brake exhalations in places where you wouldn't expect it (check out 'Lazy River' -an awesome tune). If you haven't got it, get it.

@pharpo - I don't know if you've got Jimi Lee's Groovetrax jam tracks, but the 'Lazy River' melody works really well over track 4, the 'real easy groove in E'.

Deak does old school tongue block rhythmic harp like no one else I have heard. His tone is amazing, and when he plays amplified his tone is HUGE.
He's not flashy on fast single note articulated riffs (though he isn't slow, either!), and he doesn't use overblows to play chromatically, but he plays solid, deep, earth shaking blues.
He hasn't gigged around here much since he and Kilborn Alley parted ways, and I miss being able to drop into his gigs casually in town here in Champaign-Urbana, IL, and hear some great blues harp.

I plan on buying it off itunes after payday. I've heard sound clips and it sounds amazing. I love Deaks harp playing. Its definatly the type of style i'm into at the moment. I'm getting an original 1945 JT-30 from Rharley at the end of the month, so i'll be woodshedding that album when i get it:o)

Yep, he doesn't overblow... Just solid, deep, earth shaking blues, played tongue block style!
