Not everyone has something to add to every single post-ya gotta understand that. I've seen many a post, some of mine included, get no comments. Bottom line: If you're looking to a forum of people you can't see, touch and might never meet for approval, you need to step back and re-evaluate some things. and a rant about it will only make things worse. You mentioned something that might just be either unfamiliar or unintersting to everyone here. It happens. Or, something that has been brought up almost ad nauseum by folks that have been on here for a while, even though it's new and shiny to you. Even our fearless leader(Adam)sometimes makes threads that never get a single comment. Does that mean no one reads them? Not necessarily. It means either his thread says all that means to be said, or folks are so unfamiliar with the subject matter that they fell they have nothing useful to add, or everyone is doing what they should:they're playing harmonica, living their lives. Or, someone might drudge it up a a later date, or find it as a match when they search the forum, and bump it then. Chin up, soldier.

@ncpacemaker: At the risk of enraging you even more if the answer is no (and I apologise in advance if this is the case) was that irony?

If not I would say that in the time you've been here you've probably been a better new member than me (I only joined about a month ago). You've posted vids of your playing and seemingly contributed other things as well.

I admit that I looked at your post, but didn't click through to the vid. This was not because I was ignoring you, but because you seemed to insinuate that the harmonica part in the song was a bit pants.

I've personally found all the members around here to be polite and curteous. Don't take it as a personal slight, because I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Contributing to threads is not compulsory, we're not obliged to be interested. Traditionally, you could follow the original post with a "bump" message, if you think it's been overlooked. You did ask a very specific question, it is possible that no-one has played a version of this track, heavier on the harp...but the track is long & the harp is sparse...perhaps someone with more patience than me might stick it out for the whole thing & offer perspective.

Don't be so insecure, you'll need a thicker skin when you post something and folks actually want to argue the toss...as often happens here.

Another possibility:MY situation-I'm at work when you see me on here, 9 times out of ten. It breaks the tedium. At work, I cannot access youtube, most if not all the audio and video hosting sites, and more. I have to find time when I can at home to view things of interest. Plus, when I'm not here, I'm doing family and daddy stuff, honey-dos, and playing music with my band. So, it's hard to comment on something I can't even see or hear.

ncpacemaker, I was busy with many things yesterday, so I had a quick listen to the Hendrix track, but couldn't find the place where there was harmonica playing, and I didn't actually like the song all that much.

If you are new to forums, you need to realise that sometimes you can say something that you think is very important and you'll get no responses. At other times, you can say something that's throw-away junk and it will spark a debate that will last for days. You just have to keep in there.

Who knows why members respond to certain posts/threads and not others. There's threads full of frivolous nonsense that go on forever and others with very substantive music content (like the"blues bridge" thread Jim Rumbaugh started on Sunday) that get almost no responses. Go figure. It has nothing to do with you personally.

Part of it might also have to do with when you posted. Certain times of the day are busier than others. Sometimes you post and it ends up getting knocked off the first page fairly quickly before many people have even had a chance to see it. The more people that see the post the more likely there will be someone who has something to add. But once it gets knocked off the first page there aren't a lot of people who go searching through previous pages to see if there's anything they missed (in this case you may want to "bump" your post back up to the top).

Also, there is no problem with embedding videos in your post. I'm thinking that maybe you're under that impression because of a post I made where I posted links to some videos instead of embedding them. When I said I was posting links (instead of embedding) to save space, I wasn't talking about bandwith. Like I said on the post, it was a series of 3 videos that had been posted here many times before, so most of the regulars here have seen them. And embedding 3 video into my one post would have made my post unnecessarily long, and I figured just posting the links would help the people with slower connections, or people reading this forum on their phones. If the videos hadn't been posted here so many times before, I wouldn't have thought twice about embeding them.

That's the attitude pacemaker. Wind your neck in, pin your shoulders back, stiff upper lip, and crack on! (though drop the stiff upper lip when playing, obviously)

@ncpacemaker:

/I am new here/

Welcome!

/there is at least one large elephant in this room/

*tongue in cheek*

Of course there is!

What did you expect?

This *is* a zoo, after all, and, anyway...

(Don't tell anyone I told you this...)

The elephant is only there so you don't notice the spiders crawling up your legs...

By which time, of course, it's too late...

*tongue out of cheek*

/Have a good day./

You too!

Hey nc,

I remember that video. I listened to it because I'm a HUGE Jimi Hendrix fan, and I happen to think that when Jimi decided to play some blues, he was much better than when he went into some extended psychedelic exploration of the sounds you can get out of a guitar (my one exception is The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock), but that's just me.

I didn't respond to the video because I didn't think that THAT song was his best blues, I prefer the much covered Red House, and that would have been my comment. I didn't post as much, because 1) one of my new years resolutions has been to be involved less in threads that might delevop into a pissing match and 2) I like the "new" tone of the MBH forum, what with the multiple mods who, so far at least, appear to be at the ready with the padlock if a thread starts to stray, and want to do my part to make their job easier.

Sort of adhering to the "if you don't have anything positive to add....." philosophy (and now of course, I've just violated that.. ;-) .....)

So there you go.

But, that said, in general I feel your "hey what happened to my post, where's all the cool responses?" sentiment. It's happened to all of us at one point or another. Todd's got great advice above on that subject.

Lastly..here's what I would have responded with, Jimi playin' the blues (no harp though):

I saw your post and I liked it. I didn't respond because...because...I dunno. I just didn't feel compelled to... No reason.

When I post stuff like that, I know some people will like it and some won't. That's fine. I'm not taking surveys.

I will admit, though, that when I post something I REALLY, REALLY like, I hope to get positive responses. But if I don't..."Eh (shrug)...Oh, well."

It ain't no big deal.

There are also several members who act as bumpers. Sometimes, when a flood of new threads get started at once a thread will sink quickly and these guys will go out of their way to try to at least make a comment. Sometimes the bumpers are busy (for instance, yesterday I was at an open mic.)

What threads get the most hits? It seems threads with a wider possibility of responses get more hits. I remember a thread about favorite cover songs that got huge.

Threads with an embeded video seem to do better than ones with just the link. (It's fine to embed videos, and lots of people have them in their profiles. In signatures they get kind of repetitive though.)

Videos seem to do better than sound files.

Tongue Block vs. Lip Pursing always explode.

Videos asking for feedback tend to get a few more hits than videos that don't.

Some threads just go viral for no predictable reason.

If you post something and it slides of the front page, feel free to give it a bump. Sometimes it's just hectic.

I DID watch the video yesterday, I just didn't have anything worthwhile to contribute. You weren't being ignored.

A few days ago I posted my first videos. I got 20 responses which is a lot more than I usually get when I start a topic (sometimes they sink from page one without a trace). But what wasn't apparent from my counting posts is that when I clicked on my Youtube channel this morning I had over 210 views of my videos, which means that 180 people watched my videos without commenting on them.

If this forum had a "hits" counter for topics you might have a better perspective. Until then, just assume the best of everyone.

I watched the video. I just didn't feel like I had anything productive to say. So I will say thank you for the video. No hard feelings from this NC neighbor.
