I don't get it. I purchased a Chinese Chicago by JDR and it is a great harp. Plays very well right out of the box. Also have a Easttop Maxwell Street Blues- also great right out of the box.

Purchased a Seydel Blues Soloist Pro and had to gap 3 reeds! It was terrible out of the box.
These Chinese harps are really well made and my experience has been they play well.

Not really crazy about sending my money to a Chinese company but I wanted to give them a try.

Sorry about the spam posts. We had a wave of spam attacks. I think I got them all.

I haven't tried JDR. I've got a Seydel Blues Favorite and a Session (neither with steel reeds). It's hard to compare them to other harps though because one is a Turboharp (which plays well except the 1 hole... there is an upgrade piece that I never bothered getting to fix that issue with that) and a Low D harmonic minor... which I play so differently from my other harps in terms of bending I can't really compare it.

I do have a couple 1847s, and a Fender Midnight Special (which is basically an 1847 with a laser cut wood comb). I had to replace the comb on the Fender because it had a smoky smell to it that bothered my asthma, but after that it played great (Fender discontinued all their better models.) I got it on clearance for, I think, $45, custom comb brought it up to $90 by the time I was done, which still came out a little cheaper than if I'd just bought a regular Seydel version, but it would have cost more AND had the comb issues if it hadn't been on clearance.

I *really* like the 1847s. If it was in the budget I'd get a full set.

I've heard good things about JDR, but a lot of it has come from endorsers, so I've taken it with a grain of salt.

I suppose, given my druthers, I'd choose to send my money to Japanese, German or South Korean companies, but people making harmonicas aren't personally responsible for their governments. I like Kongsheng harps. I've played several of them. Easttop seems solid too.
